@JohnFisher_hrw Dear John Fisher, are you trying to give blind eye for the statement given by #Eritrea delegations? The statement clearly indicated the concern on *the lack of transparency and absence of fairness in the selection process*. #UNHRC
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, Eritrean communities across the UKâincluding London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham, Glasgow, Southampton, Middlesbrough, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, and Coventryâgathered to commemorate Martyrs Day with a candlelight vigil. In London, the event took place at Kennington Park and was organised by the Sponsor Martyrs Family Committee (SMFC). The program began at 5:00 PM with a moment of silence in honour of all those who sacrificed their lives for the liberty and sovereignty of Eritrea.
This is beautifully said.
Itâs commendable that this is coming from a member of the opposition group. As Iâve always emphasized, while itâs perfectly acceptable to oppose, we must never disrespect our history, country, or people.

Every day, we are proud of our history. Every year, we light candles to remember our martyrs. Their sacrifice shaped our nation, and their memory will live forever. đŞđˇđŻď¸ #MartyrsDay#Eritrea
I conducted an interview with the late Mr Alamin Mohammed-Seid, Secretary of the PFDJ, during Eritrea's 27th Independence Anniversary on May 13, 2018, in Asmara. In the interview, Mr Alamin emphasised the interfaith ties of tolerance among the various religions in Eritrea and highlighted the harmonious relationships they share. He mentioned that Eritrea is home to paleontological and prehistoric sites, as well as a rich cultural diversity intertwined with beliefs and religions. Mr Alamin referred to the Red Sea as "The Silk Route" and described Adulis as a trade hub that linked several civilisations. He discussed the Danakil Depression, which is part of the East African Great Rift Valley and contains much of the evidence for human origins. He noted that its history is closely connected to the "African Route of Aromas" and the "Route of Gold." Additionally, the archaeological site of Buya is believed to be the home and origin of the earliest Homo sapiens. Mr Alamin also spoke about the role and responsibility of the PFDJ, stating, "The Peopleâs Front is a growing seed, nourished by the sacrifices of thousands of our best men and women. It is not just a political party for some but a broad national front representing all Eritreans who desire to build and develop Eritrea.

Following his address, Mr Salih Abdella participated in lighting candles in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Eritrea's future. The event also featured music and poetry reflecting the hardships Eritreans endured during the colonial period. The SMFC took this opportunity to encourage more Eritreans to "Sponsor a Martyrâs Family." Performances by Eritrean artists from London featured various national songs and those from the liberation struggle era, alongside poems that conveyed the values of our heritage to the younger generation. The youth choir also presented nationalist songs from the liberation period, evoking strong emotions among participants.
