Since the @EFIFoundation was founded in 2017, we've advanced pragmatic, data-based, and coalition-building solutions for the global energy transition.
I'm proud of what we've accomplished. Learn more about EFIF's work here: https://t.co/0OomgkXaY0
I was pleased to share my thoughts on the U.S.-Saudi nuclear deal in @TheEconomist this morning.
The agreement could dramatically change the nuclear dynamics in the Middle East.
I advocate two approaches to address nonproliferation concerns. The U.S. should require extensive verification measures of all possible Saudi nuclear sites, and establish a regional nuclear fuel cycle to reduce weapons risks and stabilize tensions across the Gulf.
I was pleased to visit the Obama Center earlier this month and examined, among other highlights, displays on two diplomatic breakthroughs where I was proud to play a key role: the Paris Climate Accords and the Iran Nuclear Deal.
In June, the highly anticipated Barack Obama Presidential Center held an opening ceremony on Chicago’s South Side attended by Presidents Obama, Biden, Bush, and Clinton.
The ceremony coincided with the release of an oral history of the Obama years by Columbia University.
It was a great opportunity to reflect on the achievements made by my incredible team at the Department of Energy, where I served as Secretary from 2013 to 2017.

I joined @MSNOWNews 11th Hour to discuss the recent memorandum of understanding with Iran.
One item that is not included in the MOU, but must be a priority during negotiations, is ensuring inspectors can gain access beyond the declared nuclear sites.

I enjoyed speaking with @LynnThoman on the @3_takeaways podcast to discuss what it will take to build a clean, secure, and equitable energy future.
While progress on clean electricity has been meaningful, much is needed to decarbonize the fuel economy.

Significant radiological releases have been avoided, including in today’s Barakah event, but such risk should be eliminated through curtailed military activity in the vicinity of nuclear power plants. Such behavior is in the interest of all countries in the region and beyond.”
A Statement from Ernest J. Moniz, the 13th U.S. Secretary of Energy:
"I condemn the drone attack at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates. The attack hit an electric generator, not directly affecting the nuclear reactors or spent fuel facilities.
However, the energy infrastructure serving a nuclear power plant is essential for continued safe operation, and this attack extends the disturbing pattern, started several years ago during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, of heightened risk to nuclear power plants in conflict zones.
I learned a lot from Ted in so many ways—even how to hunt quail (he generously appreciated enthusiasm over ability). Above all, I was honored to be Ted’s “pal” and to be his partner in building a safer world. That was his immutable and unflinching passion.
I was privileged to have the opportunity to work closely with Ted Turner, serving together as co-chairs of the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) after I was named CEO in 2017. Ted’s commitment to a safer and more peaceful world is part of NTI’s DNA,
Getting to know the person Ted Turner has been, if anything, an even greater privilege. Ted was simply extraordinary—tremendous accomplishments in multiple domains, a fearlessness in tackling major challenges, a great sense of humor.
This week, I joined @Lawrence on @MSNOWNews to discuss the Iran nuclear deal of 2015 that I assisted in negotiating.
We covered the key points of the 2015 deal, and what a successful deal might now look like in 2026.
