@ManuelSConde@JeremyTate41 Funny that anyone thinks that any college curriculum should be some kind of job "training." It is a different kind of investment.
@WithoutHistory It's hard to imagine social media bullshit like this hasn't already ruined any efforts forward toward a widespread critical thinking nation.
@hunter_joh80957@owenjonesjourno@zeno_lorea You were not wrong in your point; that dude was. Latin and Greek scientific, medical, and religious terminology is largely dominant (even outside of peoples directly controlled by those empires). Cognate tracing is what I was interjecting as a further consideration.
@hunter_joh80957@owenjonesjourno@zeno_lorea "Swedish is a North Germanic language whose core vocabulary, grammar, and high-frequency everyday words are overwhelmingly inherited from Proto-Germanic / Old Norse. Loanwords form a large secondary layer, but Latin and Greek contribute far less than in English."
-Stupid Grok
@hunter_joh80957@owenjonesjourno@zeno_lorea Tell me, please, all that I understand. "About 15% of the vocabulary in the Swedish language comes from Latin and Greek, primarily through religious and scientific terminology."
-Rando AI model
...Now do English.
@hunter_joh80957@owenjonesjourno@zeno_lorea Living languages evolve, appropriate and invent words and expressions, drop entire cases, combine tenses. Spanish is โvulgar Latin.โ Whatโs not to get? Reconstructing Modern Hebrew uses about the same percentage of Arabic loan words as do the Swedes use Latin.
@hunter_joh80957@owenjonesjourno@zeno_lorea All descend from a Proto Indo European language. There have been sound linguistic cognate tracing studies across the continent(s). This does not detract from the point of the post.
@hunter_joh80957@owenjonesjourno@zeno_lorea Because both are derived from same Indo-European roots that spanned from Iceland to India. Persian Farsi and Hindi are Indo-European. All of Slavic languages are Indo-European. Every language in India, save Tamil is Indo-European.
