An interesting paper to read. Punt and Adulis could indicate the same place or location separated by a thousand years of history. In @eLife: Adulis and the transshipment of baboons during classical antiquity https://t.co/56A66MVHDb
I sympathize with people of Palestine 🇵🇸 but I'm glad the Eritrean gov remained neutral in the case whether Palestine deserves a state or not . Not our business. Just a friendly Reminder both the Isreal Gov and POL Palestine gov were huge opponents of 🇪🇷 independence
Marco Rubio, America’s secretary of state, has talked of a “new era of US–Eritrea relations”. Much chatter suggests that sanctions on the country will soon be lifted https://t.co/CeOkIow1ou
@MapsAfrican "Again"??? They were never been one country before they will never be one in the future. May you be cursed again. May demons and satans give your zomby brain a nasty dream 😄.
Elon Musk retweeted a post by an #African developmental activist stating despite #Ethiopia never being colonised, it has always been poor.
In fact it is worse than that, because of the myopic and expansionist #Ethiopian leaders, it has dragged all its neighbours into war and under development, and the current leader (Abiy Ahmed) is the worst example @magattew
No wonder that Mr. Plaut who championed burning down Eritrean Embassies is having difficulty to accept that Eritrea has independent choice on with whom it engages ነጻ ሕርያ, and is a sovereign and equal member of the UN ኣብ ዓለም ጨቢጣቶ ግቡእ ክብራ.
Eritrea has been elected to serve as one of the Vice-Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly’s 81st Session (September 2026 – September 2027).
This election reflects growing international recognition of Eritrea’s active role in multilateral diplomacy and its commitment to the principles of the UN Charter.
Congratulations to the Eritrean delegation and the entire nation!

@east_facts In his famous speech in front of hundreds of thousands in Khartoum after the peace deal John Garang said openly that he wanted one Sudan with him as President. This in not a secret, it was televised, we saw it on Eritrean TV.
Martin Plaut posted an article from The Times (London), written in March 1950, emphasizing that #Eritrea was not considered fit for nationhood. I would like to thank Mr. Plaut for sharing this piece of evidence, as it reveals more than he bargained during the UN Commission's deliberations.
First and foremost, I am willing to bet that this article was written by Sylvia Pankhurst. She travelled to #Asmara and then flew to #AddisAbaba in a small aircraft at a time when #Ethiopia did not even have an international airport. She was actively campaigning for the union of Eritrea with Ethiopia, and her influence and arguments can be seen throughout this article.
At the time, the British were working hard to partition Eritrea, incorporating western Eritrea into Sudan under their sphere of influence while attaching the Eritrean highlands to Ethiopia. They were doing everything possible to make that plan a reality.
However, even this article acknowledges the following:
"The Ethiopian Government has been as articulate as the Eritrean Unionists, but its claim to the whole of Eritrea as a 'lost province' does violence to history and takes insufficient account of present political and religious facts. The claim is based on romantic references to early history and migrations, the main implication being that Ethiopia lost control of the Red Sea coast only at the time of European annexations. History does not bear this out."
This passage is significant because it openly rejects the claim that Eritrea was historically a lost Ethiopian province and states that such an argument is not supported by the historical record.
Ethiopia’s election next month will be a sham. Many of Abiy Ahmed’s rivals are either in exile or in jail. Opposition parties have been co-opted, cowed or banned https://t.co/1DBbWGAlqA
Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation, stands deeply divided, facing violent ethnic conflicts, restrictions on free speech and crackdowns on dissent.
As the country heads toward a national election, the leader once celebrated as a healer is now viewed by critics as the main driver of these schisms. https://t.co/spNIFvefxi
Some Ethiopian politicians (PP) themselves question Eritrea's independence, saying: "Who allowed the people of Eritrea to hold a #referendum"? The question should be: "Who allowed the Ethiopian government to conquer Eritrea?"

#Egypt officially approved the opening of a Cairo University branch in #Eritrea. A strategic milestone for Eritrea, expanding access to higher education, research & regional p’ships while deepening #Asmara’s ties w 🇪🇬. In a shifting RedSea & HOA, soft power & institutions matter.
