Today marks 120 years since Oscar Kjellberg founded ESAB. ESAB has transformed into a focused premier industrial compounder with global and regional brands that span 147 countries with a portfolio of over 40 brands serving manufacturing, infrastructure and more. #120YearsStrong
At the turn of the century, ESAB had cemented its role as a leader in the global welding industry and continued to innovate and introduce important new products. Between 2012 and 2019, the company completed 25 acquisitions. #120YearsStrong
ESAB experienced a definitive period of growth and expansion through acquisition throughout the 1980s and 1990s – a policy that ultimately converted ESAB into a leading global welding company. #120YearsStrong
The 70s were characterized by sustained market leadership in Europe and booming shipyards. ESAB was steadfast in introducing its iconic black-and-yellow brand logotype, initiating production of robot welding systems, and establishing footholds across the world. #120YearsStrong
ESAB experienced portfolio expansion in the 60s, with resistance welding machines, the famous A6 automatic welding system, and automatic welders for submerged arc welding and semi-automatics for gas metal arc welding.
Oscar Kjellberg's passion for problem solving has led to over a century of technological innovation. Since discovering the world's first welding electrode in 1904, which led to the founding of ESAB, the company has remained dedicated to its pioneering spirit.
#120YearsStrong
During the '40s, ESAB increased production of welding machines and other equipment needed in fabrication, and in the '50s, demand for electrodes grew across Europe. ESAB also expanded operations by opening subsidiaries in France, Brazil, Austria and Canada.
