Students summarize info from a piece of media independently, then➡️small group, finally➡️ whole class.

collaboratively, to “whittle down” a list of vocabulary words to most important for understanding.
🛟SOS Strategy of the Week: Flip Flop🩴🩴
This strategy allows students to practice metacognition by challenging them to reflect on their own thinking about the content. It requires students to carefully consider their preconceptions and how their thinking changes over time.

The purpose of this strategy is to introduce academic vocabulary before the viewing of content. Students will listen for identified terms in order to sequence them according to when they are mentioned in the video segment.
SOS Strategy of the Week: Four Corners
Students are presented with a “thought-provoking” statement and supporting media; moving to the corner of the room that reflects their position. Students practice listening, critical-thinking, & providing evidence/rationale.

After viewing 2 images, students demonstrate their understanding of the content by completing sentence stems. This strategy activates prior knowledge and provides opportunities for students to make personal connections to the content.
