@GOP_is_Gutless@BernieSanders A constitutional republic is a form of democracy. “Republic” doesn’t have anything with whether or not the government can take your property. It comes from “res publica” meaning “public thing”, i.e., the power is in the hands of and to the benefit of the people, not a king.
@BasedDanUNJ@MattWalshBlog Unity has nothing to do with being uniform. The opposite of unity is division, not diversity. People from a vast range of backgrounds and ethnicities, people of different creeds and colors can all come together under a social contract which treats them fairly. E PLURIBUS UNUM
@manly_mentor Less wealth inequality is just good economics. Sure, you could have a society where the top 10% own most of the assets and use them to wring every penny from the bottom 90%, but it would not be a vibrant healthy society. Healthcare and education regardless of income is best
@OverhaulUSA@mendyboyd@HunterBiden Wealth inequality. The richest 10% have got vastly richer over the past 15 years. All that money has to go somewhere, and it is going into assets like stocks and real estate. It’s the same growth curve for investable fine art.
@LaLunaLlorando@elonmusk@pmaxipanure@GadSaad So are you now in favor of dividing people in classes where some have fewer rights, oppressing the downtrodden and fighting for the rich to get richer and have more power? Seems pretty dumb, Bonita
@DanyelJKing@CollinRugg You are right! As usual the Republican solution to a complex problem is over simplification and a solution that just makes it someone else’s problem.
People also fail to realize that the trauma of being on the streets often leads to drug use and mental illness.
@StevenKerwin@BasedMikeLee Trump likes soldiers “who weren’t captured” and thinks those who died are suckers and losers. Not one member of his family has ever served, and his grandfather came to the US to get out of conscription in Germany.
@Stellasmom1122@phxgypsy@EricLDaugh@hQX5sN9Cz756988 If there were a gravy train and free healthcare she would be eligible for it as well. Immigrants aren’t accessing anything that isn’t available to non-immigrants, and in most cases they are not eligible for benefits that citizens are
@DonaldJTrumpJr “Driving down the price of housing” is also known as a housing market crash and would be a disaster for the economy. People will walk away from mortgages if they are underwater.
@DeeEmNumbers@kevinolearytv Generally speaking, VAT is a fairer form of tax and is trade neutral at the macroeconomic level. But as an exporter to the UK, my products are assessed both tariffs and VAT, whereas for the UK exporter their goods are only assessed tariffs coming into the US and VAT is rebated.
@DeeEmNumbers@kevinolearytv VAT makes US exports uncompetitive but imports don’t face the same disadvantage. Sales tax in the US is state and local level and varies greatly.
@JTinHB@kevinolearytv Tariffs are paid by importers and pass on to the consumer. You are only “punishing” the exporting country if it drives business to domestic manufacturers.
@SenRickScott Competition doesn’t drive down cost in the insurance marketplace, it increases overhead due to marketing and customer acquisition costs. You can only “offer a great plan” by paying out less and kicking sick people off your plan.
@allofercloseoff@Andercot The worry is that the “winners” will be a small group of people, not the nation as a whole and certainly not the general public whose livelihoods will be taken. If wealth doesn’t trickle down, why would the benefits of AI?
