Prop A would not increase school property taxes for qualifying senior citizens or disabled homeowners whose taxes are frozen, as long as they have applied for and received the appropriate homestead exemption and no significant improvements are made to the home.

Homeowners age 65 or older with a home assessed at $200,000 or less will now see their school district taxes drop to $0 if they have filed for and received the Over-65 Exemption.

🗳️ On August 17, the Socorro ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved calling an election for Tuesday, November 3. The Finance and Operations Advisory Committee (FOAC) and Budget Advisory Committee (BAC), made up of district, employee and community representatives, met throughout 2025 and 2026 to review district finances, cost-saving measures, funding scenarios and expenditure plans. Their work provided input into the district’s financial planning ahead of the Voter-Approved Tax Ratification Election, Proposition A, that voters will consider this fall.
