@Cassie_Boness Agree 1000 percent. I had both of my children as a PhD student. They are now 9 and 12. I also had a miscarriage as a PhD student. Planned or unplanned, it does not matter. Support goes a long way indeed. Unkind and insensitive words cut deep.
Never underestimate how powerful your mentorship can be to someone. You could completely change the trajectory of someone’s life. Be kind, be supportive and lift people up. The world needs more of this.

@DrSturg I too am getting less tolerant of folks offering “cheery suggestions for self care.” Maybe those folks could use some cheery suggestions for how to fix the underlying reasons why facstff are feeling worm thin.
Academia is generally lacking in genuine positive feedback. Share some encouragement with someone today and maybe you'll make their day. At the very least, both of you will be happier for it.
