The Expanded Success Initiative (ESI) is a pioneering effort to close the achievement and opportunity gap for Black and Latino young men in NYC public schools.
Our ESI P2P Mentors of the Week are Andres Bautista and Oscar Alvarez from High School for Law and Public Service! Andres and Oscar serve on the school's Young Men's Peer Mentors program. In Fall 2018, Andres will attend Lehman College, and Oscar will attend John Jay College!
Monday my mentee and little brother, @leonIsaacs10, graduates from the School for Human Rights. Listen to his message about reaching the finish line as he crosses the cable bridge last weekend at @frostvalley@ESINYC@CamilleKinlock@Brothersoftomo2
Congrats Leon! 👏🏾
Honored to be the keynote speaker for this group of graduates. They have been a special group of young men and women. Always supportive of @ESINYC I will miss them.
Today was my first graduation ceremony since this happened in Florida: https://t.co/h8TM9V0BiK
Look at #BlackAndBrownJoy at School for Human Right graduation. A school that is culturally responsive to students. Celebrating with music & dancing. Was great to be there today
And this👇🏾is why School for Human Rights has always been one of my favorite @ESINYC schools. Principal Alexander & AP Jennings has created an amazing, culturally responsive environment. Look at #BlackAndBrownJoy Congrats #ClassOf2018 🎊🎉🍾 @DOEChancellor@supmprayor
It took them a while but look at how these young people, from different schools, meeting for the first time, came together to begin to solve this problem. #TrustTheProcess#ChangingTheNarrative#ESIP2P
There is no greater joy than hearing young people genuinely laugh and just be kids! So proud of the @ESINYC peer mentors! They are making a difference in their school communities. #ESIP2P
0 MBK Boys had an out of School suspension this year
92% Average Daily Attendance for MBK boys compared to 87% school-wide Attendance
77% of MBK boys are currently on track to graduate ON TIME - our boys represent some of the lowest performing students in the school
At the retreat, students networked with mentors and mentees from our #ESIP2P school partners, and engaged in various team building and leadership exercises.
I'm a day behind because there is no reception up here at @frostvalley where mentors from the @ESINYC Peer to Peer Mentoring are spending a couple days to recommit & to do some team building activities as we close out the year & plan for next year. #ESIP2P#ChangingTheNarrative
