People don’t actually experience the real you.

They experience their own mental version of you, a personal collage built from their past experiences, fears, hopes, insecurities, projections, and whatever limited information they have about you.

Even the people who love you the most are still interacting with a version of you that exists only inside their mind. Sometimes that version is kinder than the real you. Sometimes it’s harsher or completely distorted. Almost never is it 100% accurate.

The beautiful part is this:
You are not responsible for managing their imagination.
You don’t have to:
• constantly correct their misunderstandings
• do emotional work to “fix” how they see you
• twist yourself into knots trying to control what they think in private
• feel guilty when their internal story about you doesn’t match reality
Their version of you says much more about them than it does about you.
Remember: You are not the curator of anyone else’s thoughts.

You’re only responsible for how you show up, your actions, your words, and your own integrity.

Let them keep their version.

You just keep living as the real one.
That’s where the peace lives.
