America didn’t lose in Vietnam on the battlefield—it lost in the court of public opinion. Just like the second Iraq war. Modern warfare is fought as much on perception as it is on the field.

India’s greatest enemy in this war cycle wasn’t across the border—it was the circus at home. While the Indian military followed the government’s directive—hit terror camps, avoid civilians, engage the Pakistani military only if they intervene—our own army of TV channel buffoons went rogue. These are the same people, if you recall, caught on tape, who call war a “business development opportunity.”

They spun fantasy: Karachi port destroyed, F-16s downed, Pakistani pilot captured, Quetta fallen, coup in Islamabad, Pakistan redrawn “in hours.” None of it was true. None of it was our objective. And none of it was even possible, considering Pakistan is a nuclear-armed state backed by China.

But by inflating expectations, they set up the military for failure—at least in the public mind. That’s why Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and even his family were targeted by trolls, accused of “caving in,” his patriotism questioned. All because the real outcome didn’t match a fake narrative.

And this is exactly what parts of the opposition want. These are the same people who would’ve blamed 26/11 on the RSS—if Kasab hadn’t been caught alive. Now they flip-flop: one minute it’s “de-escalate,” the next it’s “Modi is no Indira.” Two media personalities—one denied a Rajya Sabha seat, the other granted one—invoked Indira to stir resentment, while their friends pushed peace, ensuring the government lost, no matter what it did.

It’s no surprise when a desperate opposition echoes Pakistan. But when so-called “friendly” channels sabotage national interest to chase TRPs, that’s more than stupidity—it’s treachery dressed as patriotism.
