This week, year 4 took part in an art workshop in partnership with Bow Arts to develop our exciting new art curriculum. They have taken inspiration from Roman mosaics and the artists Niki de Saint Phalle and Tony Cragg, to create their final art piece, ‘Monstrous Mosaics’.

This week, Essex Primary School hosted The Royal Institution, who came in to perform 'Explosive Food' for our KS1 cohort. The pupils found the show extremely entertaining and they learned: exactly how much food it requires to jump, and that flour is extremely flammable.

Year 4 pupils enjoyed a visit to the British Museum as part of their topic work on Romans. Pupils were extremely excited to see the antiques. They were intrigued to know how coins have changed over the years and what equipment was used for surgical purposes during the Roman era.

World Book Day is a brilliant celebration of reading and an
opportunity to discover new authors and illustrators. The pupils took part in many activities through the day. A remarkable effort from pupils by dressing up as their favourite book characters!

Year 6 pupils were fortunate to participate in the Young Citizens initiative where they met members of numerous different emergency services including the London Fire Brigade, Metropolitan Police, Coast Guard, TfL and Animal Welfare Agency.

At Essex, we held a phenomenal Winter Bazaar this year! The turn out was amazing. It was great seeing teachers, parents and pupils excited about the event; especially Santa's Grotto.

Today we tucked into a delicious Christmas lunch with all the trimmings including crackers which pupils were so excited to pop and share some cheesy, cheery Yuletide jokes.

The Christmas events countdown began with Christmas Jumper Day and we would like to thank our generous families for all of the £1s donated. The money raised will go towards Save The Children.

Our Year 3 children had a great time learning how to make fire at forest school! They learned how to use flint and steel, as well as how to create a fire structure and safely manage a flame. They also roasted marshmallows and had a fun time enjoying the warmth!

This week, Year 3 embarked upon a journey to the Synagogue in Gants Hill, Ilford. The pupils took this opportunity to enhance their learning experience in RE lessons where they are studying Judaism.

The School Council had the honour of visiting Houses of Parliament today. The pupils engaged in an empowering workshop that further enhanced their speaking and representative skills. Our School Council representatives conducted themselves impeccably.

Pupils in Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Florence Nightingale Museum! They gained an understanding of why Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole are famous and why they are important.

Today’s computational thinking workshop for parents in Early Years was a great success! The parents were engaged and excited to learn how to develop their children’s computational thinking skills. A very well received workshop by parents, leaving with strategies to use at home!

The year 5 music project, “We are Heroes” celebrating Black History made for a joyous finale to this Autumn half term. Class presentations featured the contribution to rebuilding modern Britain by the Windrush generation; the fight for equality.

In celebration of Black History Month, pupils have enjoyed Djembe drumming workshops, exploring how different rhythms were used to communicate, celebrate, worship and mourn. “We learnt how people in Africa once communicated with each other.” Adyan 3L

A group of year 6 pupils visited Little Ilford School to experience a science lesson, dissecting a heart to learn about its features and functions. "It really helped to open up my mind and dive into deeper things. I'm really happy our school is doing things like this" Ijlal 6C

This week, pupils in years 5 and 6 visited FairPlay House. They had the opportunity to participate in many outdoor activities such as zip wiring, climbing high ropes and big swings. Pupils demonstrated great resilience and positivity whilst doing these activities! @fairplayOEC
