When we reject discipline because of a fear of being bored, we separate ourselves from the very rituals that would otherwise make us interesting.
If you want a reliable way to become boring, refuse to indulge any practices that don’t immediately feel easy and entertaining.
“If they're homeschooled, how will they learn to socialize with other kids?”
Let’s walk through the type of “socialization” kids get at government schools.
- They sit in the same room all day with kids their own age
- They are dictated to by a teacher for most of the day
- They have to ask for permission to go to the bathroom
- Except for short breaks, they only get to talk to others in a controlled environment
- They have a higher chance of experiencing physical violence than at any other time in their life
This type of “socialization” is overrated. It looks nothing like real life. It will never be replicated again unless they go to prison.
Worse, it transfers influence from the parents to peers and hired professionals.
No thanks.
If you have an older boy ready to fight and survive in a hostile environment, public school can provide that testing ground for him. But don’t call it socialization.
The idea of sticking kids into a classroom for 6 hours per day with kids their own age is still relatively new.
While you don’t want to insulate your children, homeschooling can provide a much better environment for what people call socialization and you don’t have to try very hard or be very creative.
- Siblings
- Grandparents
- Co-ops
- Churches
- Sports leagues
- Public parks
- Neighborhood kids
- Charity work
And much more. It’s called life. Have your kids order their own food at restaurants and be polite to the waiter, and that will go a long way as well.
Homeschooling doesn’t work for everyone, but it can work for a whole lot more people than you think.
Keep track of every question someone asks you about your work.
If one person is asking, there are hundreds with the same question who didn't ask.
Answer those questions with your content.

@padrehomestead I've been experiencing this & I think it's because Elvis reminds us of our grandparents/parents. As we age we see ourselves stepping into their roles & becoming more like them & understanding them more & even missing them more. That's how I've been feeling about my grandfather.
@wilderpatriot If I understood her correctly, she is opposed to the casual nature of dating in our society.
Intentional dating and purposeful courtship are virtually extinct.
People "talk" or "mess around" or "have fun." That noncommittal mindset causes anxiety and stress for young women.
Stop powering through crap:
There are many books I regret powering through, none that I regret quitting. Life is too short to put up with bad writing — bad anything.
If the food sucks, stop eating it. If the speaker is boring, get up and go. If the party is no fun, leave.
Just joined a fundraiser to raise money towards veteran and service member suicide prevention.
I'll be walking 60 miles in the month of February.
If you're own Facebook and would like to support my walk I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks y'all

@Romandrew12 @KingDavidQPS Grifting is saying things you don't believe to make money.
John believes the things he says.
I've known John for several years and he has been consistent during that time.
You can disagree with his opinions, but accusing him of being disingenuous makes you look foolish.
@padrehomestead Yeah I've had this account reserved for 2 1/2 years and it was time to bust it out.
Shame that it was a company making me mad that is kicking it off.
