NGUYEN SY CUONG, A VIETNAMESE FORMER MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IN VIETNAM, KILLED A VIETNAMESE GIRL WITH HIS CAR AND WAS NEVER HELD ACCOUNTABLE.

On May 30, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred on Nguyen Huy Tu Street in Hanoi, Vietnam. Nguyen Sy Cuong, born in 1961 and a former member of the National Assembly, was driving a BMW X3 when the vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into a motorbike carrying a father and his 18-year-old daughter.

The girl, born in 2007, was only 18 years old and was preparing for her high school graduation/university entrance examinations. She suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of her right leg, and died in hospital about a week after the crash. Her father was also seriously injured.
As rumour, her father also passed away, and that her mother entered a religious life after her tragic death.

What makes this case even more disturbing is what happened afterward. Despite the severity of the accident and the death of an 18-year-old girl, the perpetrator, Nguyen Sy Cuong, did not pay for his crime because he was a former member of the National Assembly. Meanwhile, his wife, Lam Thi Phuong Thanh, continued her political career and was officially appointed Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism in April 2026. Their son, singer Nguyen Lam Phuc, has also remained publicly active.

Despite public outcry, his family's power was so immense that they were able to cover everything up, suppress all the news, and manipulate the investigation so that he would not have to bear any responsibility.

For now, questions remain about the legal handling of the case and whether those responsible have been held fully accountable. An 18-year-old girl lost her life. A family was devastated. The public deserves transparency, and the victim's family deserves justice.

Justice must not depend on who you are.

Hypicrite? At least they care to some extent. How can they be worse than those who have no morality, cause fatal accident, and surround themselves with lackeys who try to silence those who speak out?
