I think they mean big leaguers are “gifted athletically” (not “handed something without work”.

And I think their point was that whether kids like machines or not they need to be able to look good against them to perform well at camps that often determine getting a spot in college.

Both can be true that 1) machines suck and 2) it’s a nice little advantage to be able to look like a goon hitting off of one.
