But what we did do was abolish slavery pretty much worldwide at least in most European countries.

Slavery was a Huge problem and each and every type of slavery was probably worse than Americas tbh far worse. There were other forms of Racial and Chattell slavery on each corner of the Globe. One of the worst and agregious offenders of Slavery was Dahomey. Whom sold a majority of the slaves in the Trans Atlantic slave trade.
