The term “civilization erasure” is often misused. But in #Afghanistan, where the Taliban is “attempting to overwrite a millennium of Persianate Islamic traditions with an imported, exclusionary, hyper‑political ideology” under the banner of “Islamization” of education, it is literally true, as I argue.

This is a self-inflicted wound, minister. The Pakistani establishment always had different choices to make. Instead of putting all its eggs in the basket of “Pashtun extremist groups,” initially Hikmetyar’s Hizbe Islami then the Taliban, it could side with people’s self-determination choice. Still this is the right choice in Afghanistan!

I'd like to thank @RLindsayUK & @FCDOGovUK for such a consultative approach on #Afghanistan. I made three points. It's not only necessary to engage with non-Taliban & democratic forces but actively assist them to coalesce. Lead on human rights, esp. "gender apartheid." Finally assist to create an education Alliance/Forum.
Can Afghanistan’s democratic opposition find common ground?
As Mosaic prepares to launch the Composite Comprehensive Roadmap at its forthcoming CAS-IV, on 19-20th of September at Jesus College, Cambridge, this timely piece by @MosaicGFdn explores the challenges and possibilities of inclusive alternative to Taliban.

Can a fractured opposition become a force for inclusive change? The Cambridge Afghanistan Series (CAS) brings together diverse voices—civil society, scholars, and political leaders—to forge a shared roadmap. Women, youth, ulema, and academics are at the heart of this effort. Read the full article by @ZalNishat, on strategic importance of developing the Composite Comprehensive Roadmap (CCR) via @AFIntlBrk

On the 4th anniversary of the Taliban retaking power in #Afghanistan, @farhatariana, a member of the New Afghanistan Democratic Forum (NAD-Forum), an inclusive, diverse and democratic civil society platform of Afghanistan, co-founded by @MosaicGFdn, in conversation with a former South African anti-apartheid activist & an activist currently fighting Taliban’s “gender apartheid” system in Afghanistan, discusses how the latter fighters can learn from the former champions. Truly amazing article:

Among other key projects of @MosaicGFdn, it has been our utmost honour to hold an annual series, entitled Cambridge Afghanistan Series (CAS) aka Cambridge Massoud Conference (CMC) at the @Cambridge_Uni. Last year in September, we held CAS-III. On the 19-20 September this year, we're holding our CAS-IV at Jesus College, Cambridge. Here is a short overview of the Series:

Russia’s strategic manoeuvres in post-Western Afghanistan signal a recalibration of regional influence, amid shifting global geopolitical sands. What does this mean for pluralistic governance and civil society? Mosaic’s founder, @ZalNishat & @MosaicGFdn's advisor, @qadamzoda's, latest analysis unpacks the implications, originally published at @CambridgeMENAF:

In a piece published today by @CambridgeMENAF’s Manara Magazine, @qadamzoda & I critically explore Moscow’s decision to recognise the Taliban challenges global norms risking legitimising jihadist networks. We call for pluralism, sovereignty, and inclusive governance in Central Asia.

"The lessons learnt from the 19th and 20th centuries are clear: neither Afghanistan nor Central Asia can afford to be used as pawns in imperial ambitions." A very good read by two amazing analysts @ZalNishat and @qadamzoda 👇👇
