📢 Action Plan for European Aluminium: Step #1 Tackle Energy Costs
Half of EU primary aluminium production capacity has been lost to soaring energy costs, with recycling and semi-fabrication also hit. Without affordable low-carbon energy, Europe risks losing a strategic industry critical to its economy, defence and green transition.
🔑 Key Actions:
✅ Remove barriers to Power Purchase Agreements
✅ Support innovative solutions to align renewable energy with industrial needs
✅ Accelerate renewable energy deployment
✅ Maintain electricity surcharge reductions
✅ Extend financial relief for energy-intensive industries
✅ Continue ETS indirect cost compensation beyond 2030

📢 Action Plan for European Aluminium: Step #5 Stand Firm on Trade
Unfair competition, especially from China, threatens Europe’s aluminium sector. Stronger trade defence tools and a fair EU Trade Strategy are essential to protect this strategic industry. Without decisive action, Europe risks losing its aluminium industry to regions with weaker climate and trade rules. Let’s ensure fair trade supports our green and industrial ambitions. 🌍

🚨 Urgent Action Needed to Tackle Scrap Leakage 🚨
European Aluminium and @EUROFER_eu are urging the @EU_Commissionto act on rising scrap exports that undermine Europe’s green transition and energy security.
Aluminium is recognised by the EU as a critical and strategic raw material, essential for Europe’s green transition, as well as for digital and defence applications. Furthermore, it can be recycled using up to 95% less energy compared to primary production, making it vital for decarbonisation. That’s why it’s crucial to recycle as much of it as possible within Europe.
We urgently call on policymakers to take action to limit exports, strengthen regulations, and boost Europe’s recycling capacity ♻️.

Today we’re launching our Action Plan for European Aluminium—a clear roadmap to secure our sector’s future.
💡 The Plan should be based on 6 essential steps:
1. Tackle energy costs 📉
2. Support decarbonisation efforts 🌱
3. Strengthen carbon leakage protections 🏭
4. Secure raw materials and boost circularity ♻️
5. Stand firm on trade 🛡️
6. Cut red tape ✂
We urge policymakers to act boldly and decisively—Europe’s future depends on it.

Aluminium is a strategic raw material for Europe’s green transition and critical sectors such as automotive, packaging, construction, aerospace, defence, and renewable energy technologies.
That’s why a thriving domestic aluminium sector is so important.
With major legislative proposals on the horizon – including the Clean Industrial Deal and the Metals Action Plan – policymakers have a critical opportunity to ensure the industry's survival and long-term competitiveness in Europe 🇪🇺.
A dedicated policy approach is essential to address the sector’s strategic role and unique challenges while enhancing global competitiveness amidst pressures from carbon and scrap leakage, uncompetitive energy prices, and unfair trade practices❗️

🌍💡 Did you know that the EU aims to decarbonise the building sector with a 49% renewable energy benchmark by 2030? To meet this goal, we must also focus on reducing overall energy demand, especially for heating and cooling.
The best way to achieve this without compromising quality of life is through renovation. Energy-efficient windows are key to making sure our buildings are well insulated, reducing energy demand, and allowing renewable energy to cover an even larger share.
Invest in the future of our buildings and join the Renovation Wave today! 🚀

As the @EUCouncil’s Working Party on Competitiveness and Growth discusses the Critical Raw Materials Act (#CRMA), we call for swift and effective implementation:
✅ Prioritise timely adoption and deployment of Strategic Projects.
✅ Focus on value chain risk monitoring to safeguard industrial resilience.
✅ Ensure complementarity between the CRMA and Net-Zero Industry Act.
With aluminium recognised as a strategic and critical raw material, the CRMA must serve as a catalyst to boost its production and recycling capacity across Europe.
✨ We welcome the start of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU at this pivotal moment for Europe.
Bold leadership is crucial to tackle industrial and trade challenges while advancing decarbonisation.
⚙️ Aluminium, a strategic raw material, is key to Europe’s green transition, resilience, and defence. We urge the Polish Presidency to prioritise this industry to build a stronger, more competitive Europe.
📢 There is no time to lose—decisive action is needed now to secure Europe’s industrial future!
