Day 5 of Eku’ Ekee - Today’s session highlighted the importance of mental health in peer education. We reflected on our well-being, discussed common societal myths, and emphasized the need to break stigma.
Today, we successfully concluded six days of “Eku’ Ekee” in R. Ungoofaaru, in collaboration with UNDP Maldives and with support from the EU Maldives through the #AIMproject.
A pleasure, as always, to meet with EU Ambassador to the Maldives, H.E. Maria Carmen Moreno Raymundo. We discussed the EU–Maldives partnership, with a clear and urgent focus on protecting media freedom and safeguarding democratic space in the Maldives.

Maldivian opposition leader, MDP President and former UNGA 76th President @abdulla_shahid met EU Ambassador to the Maldives H.E. Maria Carmen Moreno Raymundo, in a meeting focused on strengthening EU–Maldives relations with a strong emphasis on safeguarding media freedom and protecting democratic space in the country. The press, widely regarded as the fourth pillar of democracy, is facing growing concerns over shrinking space for free expression in the Maldives under the present PNC regime. The country is ranked 108th in the World Press Freedom Index, four places lower than the previous year, reflecting a worrying decline in freedom of speech and expression and, by extension, the voice of the people.

Rights and values do not defend themselves. In the skies, at sea, online. The EU is out there every day, far from the headlines but close to the people who need it most.
Happy Europe Day. 🇪🇺
In uncertain times, you find out what truly matters.
Freedom. Peace. A place to call home. The EU has delivered on that promise for over 75 years.
Not perfect. But reliable. And that is the whole point.
Happy Europe Day. 🇪🇺 @kajakallas
Here, we think before acting. Because the people on the other side of that commitment deserve nothing less.
Together, we take time to make it right.
Reliable. And that's the whole point.
Russia unlawfully deported and forcibly transferred more than 20,000 Ukrainian children, while depriving millions more of safe childhoods since the start of the invasion. Russia’s systematic violations of children’s rights make a coordinated international action more urgent than ever.
On 11 May, the EU, Ukraine and Canada will co-host a High-Level Meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children in Brussels, bringing together Coalition members and partner countries that share our commitment to trace, return and reintegrate every child, and to ensure accountability for Russia’s crimes.
