A frank discussion with the @EP_Fisheries on the findings of the #CFP evaluation as we shape the future of EU fisheries and aquaculture and prepare the #Vision2040.

The evaluation shows real progress in reducing overfishing and strengthening science-based fisheries management, but also tells us that challenges remain, in particular the need to strengthen the sector’s economic resilience and look at simplification.

I thank the Committee members for the constructive discussion and valuable feedback, which will feed our next steps.

Together, we can build a fisheries policy that delivers for fishers, coastal communities, and a healthy ocean. 🌊🎣

The @EU_Commission is committed to fostering collaboration between the Agreement’s institutions and RFMOs. By aligning science, spatial planning, and sustainability, we can safeguard both biodiversity and the livelihoods that depend on it.

Small-scale fishers are the heart of Europe’s coastal communities, but they’re facing significant challenges.
In a meeting with FENAPA and @NIFAinshore of the European Small Scale Fisheries Alliance, we discussed how these challenges can be addressed. From #Vision2040 to fairer access to stocks, policies should support all fishers.
The voices of small-scale fishers are at the heart of effective and sustainable fisheries policy.🐟
