@cockneylaurie @IanDunt But you do have a point - it might have been a good idea to put the term 'born in another EU member state' into inverted commas to highlight that the EU didn't exist at the time they were born.
@cockneylaurie @IanDunt ...(for the state) because pensions and healthcare are costly. But in reality, they have not actually moved anywhere, and are just ordinary Polish pensioners. So using this county of birth data to suggest migrants are a fiscal burden would be misleading. Definitions really matter
@StrongerInNos@IanDunt@MigObs The point of this is that datapoints can provide one-dimensional pictures of an issue and need to be interrogated before people jump to conclusions. Nobody's arguing the Polish case is directly comparable to the UK, but considering how terminology affects findings is v important.
Our new webtool - https://t.co/gM93Z8B2A2 helps explain how intra-EU mobility happens, what its impacts are, and how and why it is discussed in national debates. Here's a piece about it. The things you never knew about free movement https://t.co/ey7wOFGaRp via @politics_co_uk
A nice piece about our project! Please share it far and wide. The things you never knew about free movement https://t.co/ey7wOFGaRp via @politics_co_uk
The @EU_REMINDER project - which was developed to analyse free movement and its impacts across Europe came to an end last week and has come up with some pretty fascinating findings (see GIF) and an amazing tool for non-experts to explore them. Have a look - and please share (1/3)
Some of the findings, like this one, of our work @UNUMERIT for @EU_REMINDER were honestly a bit surprising. If you want to increase your understanding of free movement within the EU check out the online toolkit at https://t.co/C0TnnFk89g
Almost the end of @EU_REMINDER 🥺... but still lots of news and research findings to share with you all. Here's @CVar_Sil on what was achieved so far..

REMINDER's research on migration within the EU is now complete. On our blog, @CVar_Sil reflects on the project and what it has achieved: https://t.co/S3CTM4Raxs
Research tends not to be linear. To showcase the work of @EU_REMINDER we wanted reflect that all of our research themes are connected. That's where @jjosephmiller & @designbysoapbox stepped in;

4/6 The 4 ‘standard’ drivers of migration - work, study, family, or escaping turmoil fail to take into account the myriad of reason a person might want to live in another country - adventure, curiosity, better weather !

2/6. Learning from @EU_REMINDER about the impact of migrants on wages suggests small effects on average and potentially larger effects in specific occupations. (and perhaps 'low wage' is a better term than 'low-skilled') #Immigration

Probably a good day to highlight some of the learning from the @EU_REMINDER project on #freemovement;
EU migrants tend to contribute a little more to the public finances of host countries than they cost in terms of welfare benefits & public services 1/6

Thrilled with our new @EU_REMINDER digital report on European Freedom of Movement. Thanks so much @jjosephmiller & and all at @designbysoapbox . Please share widely, and let us know what you think...
A new interactive tool launched by @EU_REMINDER allows journalists and others interested in #migration to investigate how it has affected the economies & societies of Europe and how governance, public attitudes, media practices and other topics impact one another
