🔴 While all eyes are turned to the #Coreper meeting awaiting the outcome of the vote on the #CSDDD, EU policymakers agreed on Wednesday to postpone by two years the deadline for the adoption of sector-specific standards for companies' sustainability reporting.
🧵
📋 Deal!
@EUCouncil & @europarl reach a provisional agreement on time limits for the adoption of sustainability reporting standards for some sectors & certain 3rd country companies.
The deal aims at helping them prepare for the European Sustainability Reporting Standards #ESRS.
🧵"Entering into force" means the directive is officially EU law.
✋But companies won't need to comply just yet
#CSDDD kicks in gradually. The timeline based on company size starts3⃣years after it takes effect (around 2027).
⚠️ Instead of relieving companies unduly delaying sectoral standards will only reduce clarity for companies to deliver on their reporting.
This is particularly true for companies that have never performed a materiality assessment or that will start reporting sustainability info.

🇪🇺 Although we regret the decision to delay by 2⃣ years, we welcome the precision of the mandate for the @EU_Commission to adopt 8⃣ of the sustainability standards “as soon as each is ready”, or at the latest by 2026.

🚨 Following the adoption of the first set of EU standards, the #CSRD requires the adoption of complementary sector-specific standards by 2024.
However, the @EU_Commission is proposing to delay the adoption of this second set to 2026.
Why does this matter? 👇
Tomorrow 🇪🇺 Member States meet at ambassador level to find an agreement on their position on the #CS3D.
We call on them to pave the way for one common EU standard on responsible business conduct & to avoid fragmentaton of EU Member States’ regulation.

💡 Is the projected growth in #RawMaterials use truly essential or ultimately unsustainable?
In this #FranklySpeaking episode, @richardhowitt & @MichaelReckordt explore why this legislation is needed and its implications for all businesses reliant on raw materials.

👏 The @Europarl_EN enhances corporate #transparency and support for ESRS.
A majority of #MEPs successfully rejected a motion to block the #ESRS and its replacement with an emptied piece of legislation.
