In the coming weeks, a massive information attack against Ukraine will emerge from the U.S. We will hear claims that Ukraine is an artificial country, a creation of Austria & USAID, a dictatorship ruled by Nazis, and that it illegally produces WMDs.

This week started with administration officials refusing to acknowledge that Russia started the war in Ukraine. It ends with a tense, shocking conversation in the Oval Office and whispers from the White House that they may try to end all U.S. support for Ukraine. I know foreign policy is not for the faint of heart, but right now, I am sick to my stomach as the administration appears to be walking away from our allies and embracing Putin, a threat to democracy and U.S. values around the world.
Trump and Vance act as if the problem is that Ukraine is resisting an ongoing Russian invasion. The problem is the ongoing Russian invasion. If they want to use American power to stop the war, apply it to the aggressor. Abusing the victim is not going to end a war of aggression.
This might be the most extraordinary tweet of the day - the ambassador to ukraine translating this and posting it - a sign of how quickly all the institutions are rushing to show loyalty to Trump.

What matters in today's German election:
1. That the victory of the pro-European centre-right party CDU /CSU is as clear as possible, so there is no space for interpretations.
2. That AfD, the populist, extremist, anti-European party, which wants to weaken Europe and to cozy with Russia, obtains a poor result.
3. That #Germany has a pro-European government.
4. That Germany will be able to form a government fast and for this to be stable. For this, a two-party coalition is desirable.

The American team has almost no experience in high-level international negotiation, no regional expertise on Ukraine and Russia, and no relevant foreign language knowledge. Not true of the Russians, to put it mildly. Looks like a bloodbath by design.
In Russia, the State Duma approved the bill ratifying the bilateral treaty with Belarus "on security guarantees within the Union State". It was signed in December last year.

What should Europe do after the US has gone astray?
1. Arm as fast as possible! Move swiftly to 3% of GDP in defense expenditures!
2. Seize Russian sovereign assets in Europe & transfer them to Ukraine! Buy enough arms so that Ukraine can defeat Russia!
