This makes no sense. It's the opposite of this.

Meloni's ECR group says Iceland voted against starting talks to become a full EU member state because they "feared that decisions on matters of fundamental national importance could eventually be taken beyond its democratic control."

But that is what's happening *now*. As part of the EU single market Iceland has to follow most EU laws. But it has no "democratic control" over those laws because it's not an EU member. Becoming a member would have given them voting representation.

If anything, Icelanders signalled that democratic control isn't important to them - or at least not as important as fish. For whatever reasons, they are content with an arrangement in which laws are made for them that they have no say in.

Every EU-basher wants to twist this result into fitting their own narrative. And they want to keep people ignorant of the fact that the EEA's rule-taker situation is already the caricature they pretend the EU is.

The stupidest argument against the remilitarisation of the European Union and a common army is that “no one wants to fight for an economic zone”.

Speak for yourself. I would gladly fight for something that has brought unprecedented peace, prosperity and geopolitical strength to Europe.

Fighting for Europe means fighting for freedom, sovereignty and independence from hostile foreign powers. It means fighting for a land that puts citizens before mega corporations, and quality of life over quantity of trash. A beautiful land worth living in.

That’s the power of an economic zone. And it’s worth fighting for.

@AveEuropae I agree, but what about vetoes and compliance with all necessary standards? The EU needs to be reformed to move beyond vetoes and have the ability to police countries that go rogue before expanding. We cannot depend on 27+ elections all going well all the time.
