Pain relief in #palliativecare of #cancer using home-based #neuromodulation and predictive biomarkers
Funded by European Union and HADEA: Project 101057367
An article on #PAINLESS has been published in #Palitia Journal of Palliative Care ⬇️👏
We discuss the need for an initiative like PAINLESS, our clinical studies, and the goals of the project - give it a read!

🟣 4th PAINLESS General Assembly. hosted by EOC in Lugano.
These two days were very productive, especially when thinking about the future of PAINLESS and how we can continue moving forward to achieve our objectives. Continued collaboration and joint effort will be essential 💪
Proud of our partners Andrea Antal and Krishna Perianen from the NBS Lab, Göttingen. who were part of the teaching team at the "2nd Certification Course on Transcranial Magnetic and Electrical Stimulation", organised by the European Society for Brain Stimulation in Portugal!
PAINLESS was at the #EAPC2026 Congress in Prague A fantastic week of learning and exchange with clinicians and researchers from across the world. We were proud to be part of the table takeover and the PPI session, and a special mention to Maite Carrillo for moderating a panel 👏
🚀 Our next GA is just around the corner!
On 5–6 May, we will meet in Lugano, where our partners at @EnteOspedaliero will be hosting this meeting.
It will be an opportunity to share the latest progress of the project, strengthen collaboration, and take part in workshops.
Don’t forget to register for the 20th EAPC World Congress, organised by the European Association for Palliative Care.

It’s #BrainAwarenessWeek
The brain acts as the orchestra conductor in pain, but much remains unknown.
Pain is personal, shaped by biological, psychological, social & environmental factors.
At PAINLESS, we study biomarkers & explore neuromodulation to improve cancer pain care
🚀 The 𝟮𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 of the 𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 is out now !

CI-IPOP represented PAINLESS at Mostra UP 2026, an event organised by the University of Porto for high school students and families.
They showcased our research, demonstrated experimental approaches, and engaged directly with the community 🤓
M. Teresa Carrillo de la Peña will participate as a panellist in the webinar: “𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 (𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭-𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀YA".
A review by Broecker argues that neuromodulation cannot remain just protocol-based, we need personalisation. The key questions are: where and how to stimulate. At PAINLESS we are working in this direction for oncological pain.

🟣 Yesterday, the USC team wrapped up the 1st Pain Neuroscience Course! 🤓
A great space to learn about pain, neuromodulation, and non-pharmacological approaches — and a step towards shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals 💫
Yesterday, a colloquium at IPsiUS brought together five women researchers, including Maite Carrillo de la Peña. A valuable space to reflect on women’s careers in research, cultural expectations, and the need for stronger investment in science.
The pain training course at the USC continued with Modules 3 and 4, led by Sara, Unai, and Alejandro. We explored active coping strategies in pain management, including pain education, nutrition, sleep, mindfulness, and physical exercise, through several practical activities
This week, USC team together with IDIS, launched the Course on Pain Neuroscience and Alternative Strategies for Chronic Pain Management, held at the University of Santiago de Compostela. This course is aimed at undergraduate students in Psychology, Nursing, Medicine and Pharmacy.
IOB team took part in the ARIPI patient conference, organised by ARCOF. The event brought together patients and healthcare professionals, highlighting the value of an integrated, patient-centred approach. IOB delivered a well-received talk on pain management showcasing PAINLESS
We are very happy to welcome Lucía as a new member of the @idis_research - PAINLESS team, where she will be working on patient recruitment and clinical assessment.
Lucía is a biotechnologist with a Master’s degree in Neuroscience and will be supporting the project activities👏
This week marked the start of the mobility agreement between the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), the USC PAINLESS team, and Mobify, supporting our team’s travel across Galicia to assess new patients. This week, we were able to visit hospitals in Ourense and Vigo 😎.
