The NIL market for college basketball is now up 65% from last offseason. And there's a certain player type that's being overpaid.

@Timefor9bb I'm much lower on Tennessee's haul than most. Not as moved by all the volume scoring they have coming in. I don't have any of their transfers inside the top 25 in the portal.
Biggest outlier compared to consensus for sure.
Kentucky Roster Outlook
Milan Momcilovic completes Mark Pope's roster, an absolutely massive add. Kentucky should now be around a top-10 roster in the preseason according to https://t.co/NEBQZul4un.
Don't sleep on Malachi Moreno, he's could have a massive sophomore year for UK.
Very cool to see Mark Pope and Kentucky using position and offensive creation role values at https://t.co/cegyfz8ykZ to measure their offensive creation.
A role of 1 is a "creator", and a role of 5 is a "receiver" in the offense. UK didn't have a player under 2.0 last year.
Remember that high-flying offense @CoachMarkPope had at BYU? Fans may finally see it with @KentuckyMBB this year. My one-on-one with Pope from SEC Spring Meeting continues...

Great piece by Matthew.
As I mentioned earlier this offseason, smaller, skilled players are more of a bargain now. 10 of the top 25 players in BPR this year were point guards 6'4" or smaller. And yet many teams are paying up for taller players purely because of listed height.
New for @basket_review:
The on-court product will always be most important, but in a new era of roster building, money has a foothold in every decision. An under discussed topic outside of inner circles, here's how money shapes rosters in college hoops.

St. John's Roster Outlook
Tounde Yessoufou is a MASSIVE transfer for Rick Pitino, pushing the Johnnies into the top-20 roster range at https://t.co/NEBQZul4un. He's the 2nd best-rated transfer nationally.
Expected impact from the int'l players is fairly conservative here.
One of my favorite interviews Iโve done. I shared a lot about the mission behind my work in college basketball and what drives me forward to do excellent work โ my faith in Christ.

@cobrastats@mikegrib8 Regular Box Plus-Minus also is anchored for players who don't play that many possessions, so they can have more extreme values if they don't play very much.
The top 6 programs in year-over-year development have all had their current head coaches for around a decade or more:
Kelvin Sampson - 12 years
Dan Hurley - 8 yrs
Matt Painter - 21 yrs
Mark Few - 27 yrs
James Jones - 27 yrs
Rick Barnes - 11 yrs
Over the last 10 seasons, players from Houston, UConn, Purdue, and Gonzaga have made the biggest year-over-year jumps in Bayesian Performance Rating (BPR) via @EvanMiya

College basketball rosters keep getting more expensive. Donors keep giving, knowing they wonโt see a direct financial return.
Why?
I talked to donors and coaches about NIL motivation, ROI, & what programs are really selling.

Vanderbilt Roster Outlook
Assuming Tyler Tanner comes back, Vanderbilt will be looking like a top-25 squad again next year according to https://t.co/NEBQZul4un.
Vandy is 15th in Overall Transfer Activity, almost exactly where they were last season.
Cincinnati Roster Outlook
As is typical for a 1st-year head coach, Jerrod Calhoun will bring a brand new team to Cincinnati as they look to get closer to an NCAAT berth.
The Bearcats will likely be a top-45 roster or better according to https://t.co/NEBQZukwEP.
Missouri Roster Outlook
Dennis Gates has a lot of good new talent on the roster, headlined by Jason Crowe Jr. All four of Missouri's incoming transfers are all solid additions.
Mizzou will likely have around a top-30 roster according to https://t.co/NEBQZul4un.
