DA Walsh joined DPD Chief Ron Thomas and many community partners at this morning's event marking Start by Believing Day -- a day to assure sexual assault survivors that we believe them and will do everything in our power to provide justice in their cases. @DenverPolice
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and today we recognize Start by Believing Day.
When someone finds the courage to share their story of sexual assault, how we respond matters. A simple “I believe you” can be the first step toward healing. Listening without judgment, offering support and taking disclosures seriously helps survivors feel seen, heard and supported.
At the Northglenn Police Department, we are committed to approaching every report with compassion, professionalism and respect. Our officers and Victim Services Unit work to ensure survivors are supported throughout the process and connected with the resources they need.
You can also take the pledge to “Start by Believing” by visiting our website:

Every survivor deserves to be heard, believed, and supported.
That is the heart behind Start by Believing Day, a global campaign led by EVAWI to change how we respond to survivors of sexual assault. It begins with a simple but powerful idea: when someone shares their story, we start by believing them.
Too often, survivors are met with doubt or silence. But belief is where healing begins. It creates space for truth, for support, and for the possibility of justice.
We believe in advocates who are working every day to ensure survivors are met with compassion, dignity, and care. Because how we respond matters.
