A sitting congressman, Ted Lieu, said on the record the Epstein files are being blocked because they show Trump raped and threatened to kill children.

Lets make this viral again 👇

Dame Maggie Smith (1934-2024) was a legendary British actress whose career spanned seven decades across stage, television, and film. She began her career at the Oxford Playhouse in 1952 before starring alongside Laurence Olivier at the National Theatre, building a reputation as a fierce Shakespearean talent (such as Desdemona in Othello). She achieved rare acting status with two Academy Awards (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, California Suite), four Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award (Lettice and Lovage). She captured multiple generations of fans, playing Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films and the sharp-tongued Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey...

In 1964, Maggie Smith walked onto the stage as Desdemona opposite Laurence Olivier’s Othello. One night, she walked off having been hit so hard by one of Britain’s most celebrated actors that she later said she was knocked out.

Smith was then a rising star in Olivier’s newly formed National Theatre Company. Olivier had personally recruited her, recognizing an actress of extraordinary comic timing and dramatic ability. But admiration developed into a notoriously difficult professional relationship. Smith was quick, outspoken and unwilling to be intimidated by his enormous reputation. Olivier, both the company’s director and its dominant star, could be equally formidable.

During Othello, their tension became painfully physical. In one scene, Olivier’s character strikes Desdemona. Smith later recalled Olivier delivering the blow with very real force. “He said, ‘Out, devil,’ and gave me a good swack around the head,” she remembered. “I was knocked out. I saw a lot of stars.”

Accounts of the incident describe Smith collapsing onstage before recovering and continuing the performance. There was no stopping the production, no modern discussion about stage combat protocols, and apparently no public reckoning over what had happened. The show went on.

The irony is that the production became a landmark for both actors. Olivier’s Othello was enormously acclaimed, though his use of blackface is now an infamous part of its legacy. When the production was filmed in 1965, Smith’s Desdemona earned her first Academy Award nomination.

Decades later, she could recount being knocked senseless by Olivier with characteristic dry humor. But underneath the great Maggie Smith delivery was an astonishing reality.

One of the most revered actors in British theatre had hit his costar hard enough to knock her unconscious, and she got back up and finished the play.
