✨ we’re back after a hiatus and some technical difficulties
…and in light of recent events across campuses and the country, we wanted to make our stance clear. We stand firmly and unequivocally with our trans and non binary comrades.

For the third time this year, an estimated 50,000 staff in over 67 universities are on strike for fair pay, working conditions and pensions, with @ucu.
I raised this with Quintin McKellar, Board Member of Universities UK on the Education Committee this week.
His reply:
The university pension cuts are incompatible with EDI aspirations, with decolonization agendas, with sustainability goals, with ambitions to enhance the student experience, with expressed concerns for mental health and well-being, with research/teaching excellence #OneOfUsAllOfUs
We often view world politics from the perspectives of great powers. In the age of inter-imperiality, we badly need more theories about small states, about how they persevere, shape their own destines, and make world history at the interstices of empires.
Instead, we are facing an onslaught of draconian legislation in the #BordersBill, #PolicingBill, #ElectionsBill and #HumanRightsAct 'overhaul'.
Combined, these pose the most significant and sustained threat to Black and ethnic minority people’s civil rights in recent memory.
"On this basis, as you confirmed you participated in 10 days of strike action, your salary deduction will amount to £1,261.42."
A reminder that if you can't strike, consider donating to the UCU to support those who are striking to save your future pensions!
BREAKING: @KingsCollegeLon is devaluing students’ degrees using emergency regs “to allow progression/award where performance is prevented by events which may be beyond the control of the College.” But examiners’ resignations aren’t beyond its control but because of its decisions!
A bit of a clanger from @UniversitiesUK :"Excessive admin *will* take focus away from teaching, universities warn regulator". I think we're a long way down that sinkhole, Steve love.

Many vital texts came out on the problems with #westsplaining, coloniality and the denial of a voice, agency & self-determination in debates on Ukraine, Central & Eastern Europe, highlighting the need for anti-imperialist, anticolonial & antipatriarchal debates & politics - a🧵
Been thinking about this all night. Can’t express how frustrated/ sad this makes me. During the pandemic, as a mother of 2 nursery aged children I felt so completely unsupported & isolated by my employer. I have no idea what reality this video refers to, but it’s not mine.
Universities tweeting about International Women’s Day #IWD2022 might like to remember that @ucu are currently in the middle of an industrial dispute with you to get fair pay. If you care about women, instead of tweeting, start negotiating. Deeds not words. #FourFights
Just did that USS pensions calculator thing and I'm not going to do a screenshot but let's just say that I'm now developing an ideological fixation on not starving to death in my old age.
Very sorry to inform you that in light of ongoing @ucu actions against @UniversitiesUK's continued assault on our pensions, pay and working conditions, I have made the difficult decision to resign as External Examiner from LSE Geography's MSc in Environment and Development. 1/n
The #UKRI peer review relies on the goodwill of the academic community, which has been severely damaged by the recent actions of University vice chancellors and @UniversitiesUK. For this reason, I have declined to review this grant proposal - I apologise to the applicants @ucu
