A lot of people don’t know why plantain trees are planted beside fish ponds.
They help provide shade, reducing the direct effect of sunlight on the pond and creating a cooler environment for the fish.
When you’re on good terms with your water, your fish will be happy.
Good water quality = less stress, better feeding, healthier fish, and rapid growth.
Don’t focus only on the feed. Your water is part of the feed.
Lately, one thing I observed about newly hatched catfish larvae, they love to hide under dried plantain leaves while their colour changes to black, and after 3 days they start being very active.
This is my second time performing this experiment, and it's very good on them.
Channeling pond wastewater can be very disturbing to the neighbourhood, especially if you're farming in a place with a poor drainage system.
Before considering venturing into fish farming, these are things to consider: do not be carried away by people's sweet talk; do your research properly and plan diligently.
If you're looking to start catfish farming, this is the perfect size to begin with.
Don't stock fingerlings; they're too tender for a beginner to handle. The perfect size to start with is 10cm upwards in size.
This size of catfish is called juveniles, and one good thing I love about them is that they feed on 2 mm floating fish feed, unlike the fingerlings that are 4 cm that feeds on 0.8 mm sinking feed.
I make sure I confirm the expiration date before making payment, as a breeder, you need to be very sceptical and careful when embarking on production because any slightest mistake, your funds are gone.
From pH of 6,7,8 are perfect for fish's optimal growth. When it is acidic, it's so easy to raise the pH to neutral, but when it's alkaline, especially above 10, it becomes difficult to reduce to neutral. I know there's a pH reducer, but the rate that is required to reduce alkaline water from above 10 is usually high, and it's liable to affect fish survival, especially fry(newly hatched fish)
