What’s happening:
Parks Canada is currently responding to a 0.2-hectare wildfire 2 kilometers west of Banff National Park’s East Entry Gate, on the north side of Highway 1.
Two helicopters are responding in addition to
Bighorn participated in Canmore’s wildfire exercise; Jamieson Rd sent an Engine while Exshaw sent a Tender & Bush Buggy . 1st assignment, protect infrastructure in Harvie Heights & 2nd assignment sprinklers in Canmore. TY to Ops for mobile sign trailer & Admin for support.
Rick Lyster, the MD’s Fire Chief, is retiring at the end of May after 42 yrs svce. A celebration in Rick’s honor, hosted by the Exshaw Fire Fighter’s Assn. & the MD’s Council, was held Sat night w fire fighters fr Jamieson, Ghost & Exshaw halls attending. Congratulations Rick!
A two hectare wildland fire has been reported one kilometre south of the Waiparous Valley Group Campground near Highway 40. Equipment and firefighters are on scene. As a precaution the campground is being evacuated. Please avoid this area.
