I’d like to weigh in on NBC news' recent decision to hire Ronna McDaniel.

By giving her a platform, NBC has given legitimacy to the lies she helped the former president spread.

Now we come to the why. Why would NBC News hire someone as controversial? 

Here’s the reason:

News gathering is a business, and the networks have prioritized widening their audience.

They feel the need to show their Republican bona fides by hiring conservative voices.

But that is the crux of the problem.

Which Republicans?

Trump loyalists who are election deniers and January 6 apologists?

To me, that doesn’t seem like the answer.

It’s another reason independent journalism is essential right now, essential to provide unvarnished coverage in one of the most important elections in American history and to hold the mainstream media accountable.

BREAKING: A former senior prosecutor for the Justice Department rips into the MAGA-controlled Supreme Court over it's disgusting decision to help Donald Trump — and says that they are blatantly ignoring the law.

He didn't mince his words on this one...

"Everything has to come into play for there to be a trial where the facts will actually matter, and we don't have Donald Trump just spinning the public," said Andrew Weissmann, the prosecutor in question, during a conversation with MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace.

He was discussing the decision by the court to review Trump's absurd to "absolute immunity" for crimes committed while president, which means the election interference trial has been delayed.

"Which is an extra extraordinary position," Weissmann went on. "The Supreme Court has sided with Donald Trump on this case. It's obviously going to side with him in the Colorado case. And to the point that Liz Cheney was asked about what we could expect, obviously, Joe Biden won the election, and Donald Trump could still win, but I really don't have hope as to who would endorse the constitutional mechanism that there are only two terms."

Weissman was referring to a social media post from Cheney in which she stated that: "Delaying the January 6 trial suppresses critical evidence that Americans deserve to hear."

He then ripped into the court's ludicrous logic—

"They basically kept the judge's case on ice, but they didn't do any of the things that the law requires to find that a stay is appropriate," he said. He explained that a judge is "supposed to go through all sorts of factors" such but "They didn't do any of that. They just issued it."

Weissmann says the Supreme Court's decision calls into question our system of checks and balances — the bedrock of our democracy.

"You particularly need it when you have a president like Donald Trump," he concluded.

BREAKING: Pennsylvania's Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro scores a massive victory by signing into law a historic new program that provides free breakfast to ALL public school students in the state.

This is absolutely amazing...

A truly staggering 1.7 million students will be eligible for the universal free breakfast program. It will be especially beneficial to lower income students who either can't afford breakfast or who have working parents who are too busy to prepare it.

The life-changing program comes as part of Shapiro's 2023-24 budget bill which included a $46.5 million increase in funding for the healthy breakfasts. Each meal must include a grain, fruit, and milk product. Student allergies will be accommodated.

"How can we expect kids to learn math and science in English when they come to school on an empty stomach?" said Shapiro. "We can’t."

This breakfast program perfectly encapsulates what is possible when our elected officials actually care about the people — and proves that voting for Democrats can really make a change in the lives of average Americans.

If this were a Republican governor, he'd be signing tax cuts for the rich and gutting programs instead.
