Nov 2022: in progress migrating to other social media sites
Following the recent API related updates, we will indeed sunset our currently active bots. We expect to close all active bots by Saturday 2/11/23 evening. We will post on each account with a "non-bot tweet" as each one is closed.
Just amazing. Every link blog that links to tweets now just link to a dumb interstitial (unless you happen to be logged in to Twitter on that particular browser — which, if you’re using, say, an RSS reader, you’re not. Or coming from elsewhere, you’re not). Stupid. Stupid. Stupid
It appears that @TwitterDev’s recent changes to the API mean that @Twitter no longer allows @ProPublica’s Politwoops to preserve the deleted tweets of US politicians.
This is a loss for transparency & accountability, @ElonMusk.
Please make a public interest @policy exception.
Moving forward, we're going to pause for a bit and give some thought to "what's next". This has been a fun side project for myself and a few folks, but given recent changes, it doesn't make sense to continue to invest here.
We will also shutdown the backend server that runs these bots to save the ongoing cloud cost. Note, we will preserve all logs in case that happens to be relevant at some unknown point in future (lol)
If you've downloaded your Twitter archive, note that the "Your archive.html" page renders links in your tweets as t .co links. If Twitter dies, so does the t .co redirection service.
See below to further preserve the links in your tweets.
Given how things are unfolding here, I of course can't vouch for future bot functionality as they are dependent on Twitter API's working. I plan to replicate and continue the bots on Mastodon, but that will take me a bit of time to sort out.
"I wish I could get [X] data from [Y Federal Agency] broken down by [race/ ethnicity/ sexual orientation / gender/ disability status/ veteran status/ small area geography/ etc] so I can [Z]"
Have you ever had that thought? If so, please tell us about it: https://t.co/LcEUjZt6ky
Hi All - @maggiediffs will be offline for some time again. NYT appears to have implemented measures that are creating problems for @maggiediffs to get the info it needs. We'll need to do a bit of backend engineering homework on this.
We've done some fixes that appear to be holding for now to both @maggiediffs and @maggiet1m3. There's only one small outstanding item about catching contributor articles quickly that is still open.
We'll keep an eye on things but we should be mostly back to normal now.
It seem NYT made a change that is causing some errors. @maggiet1m3 and @maggiediffs will be both down for the short term. I believe I know what the issue is and should be able to fix it later this evening. Apologies for any delayed article tweets.
