Statement | Qatar Condemns Military Escalation Against Ethiopian Federal Forces

Doha | September 27, 2026

The State of Qatar condemns the military escalation against the Ethiopian federal forces, considering it a serious threat to the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, as well as to security and stability in the Horn of Africa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stresses the need for an immediate cessation of the escalation and hostilities, the protection of civilians, and adherence to the Pretoria Peace Agreement. In this context, the State of Qatar reaffirms its full support for all efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in Ethiopia, paving the way for resolving all disputes through dialogue and peaceful means.

Together with @IsmailOguelleh and @AlikoDangote, to day we announce a major strategic investment connecting Damerjog in Djibouti to Dewele in Ethiopia through a new refined petroleum products pipeline, supported by storage terminals at both ends.

The project will be developed through a partnership between Ethiopian Investment Holdings and the Dangote Group. This landmark infrastructure will reduce logistics costs and delays, strengthen energy security, and enhance the efficiency and resilience of the Ethiopia–Djibouti corridor.

More than a pipeline, this is an investment in future growth, regional integration and a more secure shared economic future—with African investment at its center.

It is rather heartbreaking to learn that despite efforts by many including the international community to avoid yet another round of war in Tigray, the TPLF leadership early in the morning today launched an all out offensive against government positions in Afar and Amhara. It has taken over federal controlled airports in Tigray leading to the suspension of flights to and from Tigray. The TPLF politico- military leadership has obviously taken irresponsibility to new heights.
