Thing is, I don’t see my work as reclamation. Just expressing whats already mine and been given to me to herald

[jill scott heron🪐 @stillnotziora]

on black country/rock artists who’s marketing strategy is “reclaiming black genres”

S/o Prince 4 this one & D’Angelo for covering. One of my favorite tunes to jam on and figured I’d record my own guitar-centric version

Love the people that listen tho, s/o the folks that rock with me

[ezrakh.eth 𓋹𓍑𓋴 @EZRAKH]

Outside of the intrinsic value I get from it I don’t be too bothered about the other stuff and that’s my shortcoming I suppose

Your art must have intrinsic value to you, not just external validation.

@stillnotziora Also FWIW pfunk obvi a rock band they hardly claimed or classified as such and they specifically held the torch for funk. A lot of refs for current Black rock comes from the branch of bands like Bad Brains, Pure Hell, Death, Iron Man. Black punk and metal.

[ezrakh.eth 𓋹𓍑𓋴 @EZRAKH]

@stillnotziora I mean my work especially last 2 records are heavily Black rock/psych/soul influenced. Valerie June is reigning queen of country/folk for me. Soul Glo is the carrying the torch for hardcore punk and in the lineage of hardcore founders Bad Brains.

Always seemed a little sus

Yes, but Jazz isn’t traditionally elitist the way classical is. You just had to know how to play as musician and listen/dance as an audience

[▫️sterlen silver▫️ @SterlenTweets]

intentional about identifying “jazz” as black classical music.
