Headed to Toronto today with @HubertVan and @EveryCdnCounts for a symposium on Survivin vs Thriving: a disability round table with doctors, politicians and my lived experience. This was going to just be a zoom call, but Hubert was driving in to make his case for a National Disability Insurance Plan similar to Austrailia. I've always supported a NDIP coupled with basic income and a fully funded and barrier free Canadian Disability Benefit.

I'll try to take some pics, record some video and update you all on Part 1 of 3 discussions which ultimately lead to a conference in the new year. I'm proud to represent my community, bringing years of painful lived experience but also articulation, intersectionality understanding and suggestions for change based on what we are all going through.

I'm pushing myself through agoraphobia, social anxiety, ptsd, and more... But if we don't have a seat at the table things get stacked against us and we lose more rights and equity footing. I will make sure we are heard.

#Maytree’s #Welfare in Canada report is the primary source for evaluating Canada’s progress on fulfilling the human right to an adequate standard of living for households receiving social assistance.

This webinar presented the main findings of the 2025 edition, offered additional analysis, and shared Maytree’s recommendations for improving the incomes of people receiving social assistance.

The webinar also highlighted the impact of the loss of the Canada Carbon Rebate in 2025, leading to a broader analysis of the federal government’s role in ensuring income security, particularly for unattached single adults.

The conversation brought together report authors Jennefer Laidley and Tania Oliveira, with insights from Alexi White, Maytree’s Director of Systems Change.

My bed is someone else's and is stained. The nightmares are mine but the suffering is on purpose and for profit. I haven't left my house for four days, my arthritis flares up in my entire back and left arm now, usually first thing in the morning. And I have 0.81 cents to my name today. This is #ODSP while #DougFord flies private, sends jobs to the states and vilifies the most vulnerable so you hate us more than him.

#Ontario is the worst province, with the worst premier and the worst neighbors, all selfish and gluttonites, overeating while shaming, rent and dining on caviar while people literally get scurvy as their housing costs take their entire disability cheque with nothing left for overpriced food.

None of you middle or upper class could survive the 20 years I've been through, none of you will learn the hard lessons. You get your healthcare, your private doctors, your multiple cars and houses, your fancy cottages and fridges full of wasting cheers and fine meats.

I dare any of you to do better. You're why Mayors like Cam Guthrie were allowed to socially murder. You're why Ford is in power and gutting our systems. You are why Carney is in power. You want to have money, you always need more and you never want to be us. That's how they keep you in line, hating basic income, disability and social supports and affordable housing. Selfish, greedy billionaires who are skimming from the most vulnerable and making you pay for our worsening conditions, highlighting your ignorance and inability to reach equity.

Your greed to have so much means we have so little, and poverty accrues interest so this all costs you in preventable care, crimes, police encampment raids, hospital and dental bills.

You're paying for your heartlessness, Ontario.
