But Iran isn't the first power to want that ice. One of them dropped swastikas on it. 🧊

A secret Nazi expedition aboard the Schwabenland reaches Antarctica.

Their seaplanes map about 250,000 km² and drop aluminum arrows stamped with swastikas to claim it. They name it Neuschwabenland.

Then a pilot spots something nobody expected down there: an ice-free oasis with more than 100 freshwater lakes.

Two more expeditions were planned. Officially, the war cancelled them.

July 1945.
Two months after Germany surrenders, U-530 surfaces in Argentina. Then U-977.

Where had they been?

The theory: running people and cargo south, to something hidden under the ice.

That same year, Operation Paperclip begins. About 1,600 German scientists are quietly brought to America, their Nazi records whitewashed to get them in. Wernher von Braun is one of them.

1946.
The US sends Operation Highjump: 4,700 men, 13 ships, 33 aircraft. Still the biggest expedition Antarctica has ever seen.

Officially, it was training. But one of its goals was extending US sovereignty over as much of the continent as possible, and that was publicly denied at the time.

By late February 1947, the fleet pulls out. Officially: winter came early.

On the way home, Byrd tells Chile's El Mercurio that America must prepare for "hostile planes coming from the polar regions."

The theory that won't die:
Highjump wasn't exploring. It was hunting.
Paperclip took the scientists who came west.
Neuschwabenland kept the ones who went south.
A breakaway civilization, under the ice.

1958.
The US secretly detonates three nuclear warheads high above the South Atlantic. Operation Argus. The only secret series in the history of US atmospheric nuclear testing.

The tests were disguised with equipment from the International Geophysical Year, the same science program that put 12 nations on the ice.

Two of the three blasts went off on Neuschwabenland's meridians, more than 2,000 km to the north.

Officially: a radiation-belt experiment.

1959.
The Antarctic Treaty. No military activity. No nuclear explosions. Every territorial claim frozen.

Frozen. Like whatever's down there.

Now look at the oasis the Nazi pilot found. Russia runs a station on it today. So does India.

Iran never said where its base would go. But its ocean institute has said step one is sending experts in through countries that already have bases.

In January 2025, Iran signed a 20-year strategic partnership with Russia, covering military cooperation and science.

So if Iran goes in through Russia, one of the doors opens inside Neuschwabenland.

And from 2048, Antarctica's voting members can call for a review of the mining ban. To get a vote, you need serious research on the ice. Like a station.

Germany, 1939. America, 1946. Iran, next?

My view: Neuschwabenland was never really abandoned, and the powers racing for that ice know exactly what's under it. 👁️

Section 1

. (a) Not later than 45 days after the conclusion of a United States election, the Director of National Intelligence, in consultation with the heads of any other appropriate executive departments and agencies (agencies), shall conduct an assessment of any information indicating that a foreign government, or any person acting as an agent of or on behalf of a foreign government, has acted with the intent or purpose of interfering in that election. The assessment shall identify, to the maximum extent ascertainable, the nature of any foreign interference and any methods employed to execute it, the persons involved, and the foreign government or governments that authorized, directed, sponsored, or supported it. The Director of National Intelligence shall deliver this assessment and appropriate supporting information to the President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of Defense, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of Homeland Security.

(b) Within 45 days of receiving the assessment and information described in section 1(a) of this order, the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with the heads of any other appropriate agencies and, as appropriate, State and local officials, shall deliver to the President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Treasury, and the Secretary of Defense a report evaluating, with respect to the United States election that is the subject of the assessment described in section 1(a):

(i) the extent to which any foreign interference that targeted election infrastructure materially affected the security or integrity of that infrastructure, the tabulation of votes, or the timely transmission of election results; and

(ii) if any foreign interference involved activities targeting the infrastructure of, or pertaining to, a political organization, campaign, or candidate, the

extent to which such activities materially affected the security or integrity of that infrastructure, including by unauthorized access to, disclosure or threatened disclosure of, or alteration or falsification of, information or data.

The report shall identify any material issues of fact with respect to these matters that the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security are unable to evaluate or reach agreement on at the time the report is submitted. The report shall also include updates and recommendations, when appropriate, regarding remedial actions to be taken by the United States Government, other than the sanctions described in sections 2 and 3 of this order.
