Being an abuse victim, who disagrees with the use of harsh & ineffective punishment, isn't contradictory. Treating people like human beings, even if they share an unchosen trait with your abuser, isn't contradictory. It sucks that it's perceived that way so often.

@FabledNix @SamuelZehdenick Bingo. I once had a lawyer who had a hidden reason for pushing me to plea bargain. He knew he was being charged with a crime and disbarred within a few days.

@SamuelZehdenick @RegistryReport In many cases, yes. But not necessarily. Sometimes the trial finds them innocent. Sometimes issues mean a genuinely guilty party does get a short sentence. But even the RISK of a much harsher sentence can be used to coerce/threaten the innocent into a plea. And that's fucked up.
