#Life isn't black and white. No issue is, either. Good people can do bad things; bad people can do good things; everyone makes mistakes; & sometimes people lie. Evil exists. Figuring out how to deal with it is hard. There are no easy answers. My philosophy in 276 characters.
@FabledNix@SamuelZehdenick Bingo. I once had a lawyer who had a hidden reason for pushing me to plea bargain. He knew he was being charged with a crime and disbarred within a few days.
@SamuelZehdenick @RegistryReport Especially when you don't have enough money for a good lawyer, and they have their own motivations for advising a plea deal instead of risking the trial.
@SamuelZehdenick @RegistryReport In many cases, yes. But not necessarily. Sometimes the trial finds them innocent. Sometimes issues mean a genuinely guilty party does get a short sentence. But even the RISK of a much harsher sentence can be used to coerce/threaten the innocent into a plea. And that's fucked up.
@Pandarve_Alice Yeah, things like this don't follow normal supply & demand.
This video explains it pretty well(if I remember correctly): https://t.co/SiTGXWnJsS
Woman uses machette to force man into sex, charged with aggravated burglary and assault with a weapon, both felonies. + misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, assault, and unlawful restraint. NO sexual assault/rape? Oh, that's right, Only men do that. https://t.co/dcgWDHmpHH
My political enemies: let’s do some specific evil
My political side: let’s not do that evil
Center: some sort of strawman about how they can’t tell the difference
