Last year, a video was trending where a guard was trying to ask such relatives to leave, it drew massive criticism on these streets, you were all up in arms raising a storm, we let them be.

@susankihika This is it. Politicians should stop politicising health matters. Even private hospitals do not offer accomodation for relatives of patients. The hospital is accommodative enough allowing those without an alternate place to spend at the waiting bay.

Held a meeting with the Nakuru County Tourism and Marketing Board, led by its chairman, Mr David Mwangi, to discuss strategies for positioning Nakuru as Kenya's leading tourism and investment destination.

I welcomed the board, describing its formation as timely in advancing the county's marketing agenda. I noted that Nakuru is endowed with some of the country's finest tourist attractions and underscored the importance of investing in supportive infrastructure, including the ongoing dualling of the Rironi–Mau Summit Road and the anticipated completion of Lanet Airport.

I challenged the board to identify, package and aggressively market Nakuru's diverse tourism attractions, strengthen the hospitality industry, build a distinctive county brand and forge strategic partnerships that will position Nakuru, the only county with six lakes, as Kenya's preferred tourism and investment destination. I also tasked the board with organizing an investment conference early next year and pledged the county's financial and technical support to enable it to effectively deliver on its mandate.

Accompanied by County Commissioner Dr Loyford Kibaara, I joined Nakuru residents in commemorating Madaraka Day—a historic occasion that laid the foundation for our freedom, dignity, and prosperity—during celebrations held at Imarisha Talanta Grounds in Teret, Mauche Ward, Njoro Sub-County.

As we paid tribute to our founding fathers, I underscored the importance of education—the theme of this year’s celebrations—as the greatest equalizer and the most valuable gift we can leave our children for a brighter future. I highlighted development projects across the County as we continue to deliver services for our people.

Together with Interior Cabinet Secretary Hon Kipchumba Murkomen and Education Cabinet Secretary Hon Julius Migos, I visited Utumishi Girls Academy following the tragic dormitory fire that has plunged our county and the nation into deep sorrow.

It is devastating that such young and promising lives were lost in this heartbreaking incident. On behalf of the people of Nakuru County, I once again extend my heartfelt condolences to the parents, guardians, teachers, and students affected by this tragedy. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families as they navigate this painful period of grief and loss.

The County Government of Nakuru is closely coordinating with the National Government to ensure all affected families receive the support they need, including counselling services for students, parents, and members of staff as they come to terms with the trauma. We also continue to pray for the speedy recovery of those still receiving treatment in hospital.

I commend the swift response by emergency personnel, security agencies, and healthcare workers, including Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat and DCI Director Mohamed Amin, as efforts continue to account for every student and support the affected families.

As investigations begin, we urge the public to remain patient and allow the Directorate of Criminal Investigations adequate time to thoroughly establish the cause of the fire and ensure those responsible are held accountable.

May God grant strength, comfort, and peace to all the affected families, and may the souls of the departed children rest in eternal peace.
