Sad news from the @northberks AGM. With only 4 teams left, the league is being suspended for a year in the hope that teams might return for 2026/7. They hope to run some open cup competitions.
@mattletiss7 Yes. I was against the expansion. I've watched all games so far. Drags on too long. (Don't think location / time zones has helped.) Too many games with zero jeopardy (determining positions by head to head results doesn't help). Need the excitement of knock-out stages now.
Getting out of group stages for first time in a 48 team #WorldCup to the last 32 is not making history.
The country has still only made the last 32, the same number of countries as in previous World Cup Finals when exiting in the group stage!
Get to the last 16 to make history!
@forzalossie Yes, the original post was based on a statement about Canada making history, but for Scotland the Quarter Finals would be where history would start to be made (notwithstanding they have never yet played a knockout game at the Finals)
@brianstokes92 Yes, Scotland are yet to make knockout stages of a major tournament, and if they do this time around, that was basically my point. They've made the last 32 before, it just wasn't knockout football!
@NonLeagueCrowd You were very unlucky to be pipped at the end. But, you've won before, haven't you? So nice to give someone else their moment of glory!
Here in the UK Iโve watched 47ยฝ of the 48 games played so far in #FIFAWorldCup and to follow are my views on whatโs been great, good, ok, bad and awful in how the matches have been presented and officiated.

@BigDerbyMan Tbh when VAR was initially put forward as an idea, I thought determining corners/goal-kicks and throw-ins would be prefect for it ... it is either one or the other.
Free-kicks are slightly different because it's based on referee's interpretation rather than on factual.
@BigDerbyMan Yes. I've always been against VAR, but have believed if it is to be used it should be used for everything. Because it isn't used for everything it will never work.
@groundhopper23 I only watch the games and none of the punditry so can't comment on that section, but reason why I don't watch it is because increasingly as tournaments have gone by punditry has become more and more awful.
Bloody Awful: The hydration/advertising breaks.
It has fundamentally changed the way a football match is played. FIFA should be ashamed to have introduced it. I donโt care if coaches like it, itโs not football to have four quarters and should be binned!

Awful: Use of co-commentators on TV games.
Individually the commentator & co-commentator are knowledgeable and insightful about football. Put them together and good quality commentating on a game goes out of the window.
Some combinations are much worse than others!
