Week 36 is the time where your doctor or midwife will change your ante natal visits to weekly.
Your baby can come at any time now. Your baby will continue to have fat deposits in the skin of the elbows, knees and neck.
A baby that has completed 36 weeks in the womb is known as a term baby and can be delivered without being afraid of their chances of survival.
Your baby will have attained the ideal birth weight by the 37th week. You may want to be concerned now about the position of your baby. Your doctor or midwife can ascertain the position from an examination or ultrasound scan.
If your baby is breech (upside down) there are options you can discuss with your doctor at this point. If you were being seen by a midwife they will send you to be seen by a specialist if baby is still upside down.
Week 38 - 42
Most babies are born between week 38 and 40.
By the 38th week, a bag containing all you need for the baby's delivery and immediate care should be packed by now. Husbands, please know where the bag is kept because no man knoweth the hour that labour will start. And with it comes confusion for the man.
You may begin to experience false labour. You know it is the real deal when your usual adjustment does not alleviate the pain and it progressively gets more painful and consistent - 3 contractions in 10 minutes each lasting more than 30 seconds.
Statistically, most babies are born in the 39th week. The truth is your baby is ready to be delivered during this week. There is little room for baby to move around and can enter into the birth canal at any time. Your womb will be pressing on your bladder at this stage and you may be urinating frequently.
Week 40 officially contains your due date if you calculated your expected date of delivery (EDD) from your last menstrual period (LMP). However, your baby is still safe even if your labour does not kick in at the end of this week.
You will continue to feel heavy and urinate often. At this point most of the vernix (remember?) on your baby's skin will be gone.
By week 41 you would probably be worried that your pregnancy is staying too long. When your pregnancy has gone past 40 weeks, it is known as post-date.
You should discuss your concerns with your doctor or midwife. Your baby is still safe but you may want to start considering being induced into labour.
Your pregnancy should not get to 42 weeks. At this stage your baby is not safe and if you realise you are at week 42 you should get to your doctor or midwife so you can be induced and deliver your bundle of joy.

Week 23 - 27
At 23 weeks, your baby continues to become stronger. Those kicks will get even meaner. You may even see your tummy move as your baby swims around in amniotic fluid.
Your baby will be weighing well over half a kilo by 24 weeks. However, it cannot survive on its own if delivered at this stage. Your weight gain will be more at this stage. Your tummy will be much more obvious by now.
Week 25 marks the beginning of the formation of the structures of your baby's spine. The blood vessels of the lungs will be developing and the nostrils will begin to open.
Your womb will be the size of a football by now. Those back aches will only get worse by this stage. You can use ice packs on those sore areas or take a warm bath every now and then. Husbands! You know what to do.
At 26 weeks your baby should be at least up to 1 kilogram in weight. The air sacs of the lungs will begin to form and the lungs will secrete substances to help it expand during breathing.
You may feel your womb tighten and relax at irregular intervals. Do not be worried. It is just your body's way of practising the real thing called contractions.
The brain and lungs will continue their rapid growth and development in the 27th week. The eyelids will begin to open and the retina will begin to form.
The end of this week signifies the completion of your second trimester. This is a sign of great progress. More than ever before, you need to eat well.
THIRD TRIMESTER
Week 28 - 32
The third trimester is the heaviness phase. You may begin to experience shortness of breath. As your womb is now closer to your rib cage, your lungs may not be able to fully expand.
The 28th week old baby in your tummy can now recognise your voice. So please you should talk to your baby a lot from this stage.
At 29 weeks your baby's eyes should be fully formed by now. The head is no longer bigger than the body too. They are now proportionate. You may feel leg cramps, itchy skin, heartburn and even haemorrhoids by now. Just always remember that it is temporary.
In week 30, your baby's bone marrow can now start to produce red blood cells. You may want to sleep on your left side so that there will be good flow of blood to your organs. You should start preparing for your baby's arrival. Write out all that you need and start preparing your baby shower 🥳🥳🥳.
The only major organ of your baby left to fully develop at 31 weeks is the lungs. You may feel as if everywhere aches at this stage. Try to rest more and eat healthily.
All the five senses (smell, sight, taste, feeling, hearing) of your baby would be fully developed at 32 weeks. Your baby will be up to 2 kg by now and you will feel constipated more often.
Week 33 - 37
The amniotic fluid is at the highest level at 33 weeks. The level will be maintained till delivery. Accumulation of fat under your baby's skin will turn the colour from red to pink. From this period you will gain weight at a steady rate each week.
At 34 weeks your baby is practically a newborn. If delivered at this stage it can survive on its own. However the next few weeks are important for your baby to develop his/her immunity.
You will begin to feel your womb tighten and relax more frequently than before. These are medically referred to as Braxton-Hicks contractions and are usually painless. They may also feel like menstrual cramps.
During the 35th week you may not notice much difference with the previous weeks. At this stage you should talk with your doctor or midwife about knowing the signs of labour and being prepared for labour if you haven’t already done so.
Your baby will keep accumulating fat in the skin and if he's a male, the testes may have completely descended to the scrotum by now.

SECOND TRIMESTER
Week 13 - 17
The second trimester is the period that your baby will begin to look very recognisable. Most of the organs will complete their development during this period.
Week 13 is the time when the face is almost fully formed. The liver and pancreas will start to function too.
As for you; the second trimester is a cake walk. It is the most comfortable and enjoyable stage of pregnancy.
As your womb stretches to accommodate your growing baby you may feel little ache. Don't worry it is completely normal.
At 14 weeks your baby will have started moving his/her hands around. The placenta is developed enough to supply all your baby's nourishment by this time.
Most of your symptoms would have eased off by now. Be sure to increase the fibres in your diet (fruits, vegetables, etc) during this time as constipation may become an issue. Your nipples and areola will become darker too.
An ultrasound can be used to know your baby’s gender by week 15. You can even see your baby sucking his or her thumb at this stage. Your womb will be getting bigger and your doctor can even measure your fundal height to monitor your baby’s growth. Fundal height is the distance between the top of your womb and your pubic bone.
The 16th week is usually the time where you begin to feel your baby kick. This is because your baby's bones are becoming harder. First timers may not feel it until a couple of weeks later. But don't worry, those kicks will continue to get harder each week.
Your baby will begin to form fat under his/her skin by the 17th week. It is a period of rapid growth. The placenta and baby will be at about equal sizes by this time. Due to your baby's rapid growth you will add more weight during this week.
Week 18 - 22
Week 18 is a time where your baby can now suck, swallow and blink! If your baby is a boy, his prostate gland will begin to develop at this stage. You may occasionally feel dizzy or light-headed. But if it becomes too frequent please see your doctor or midwife.
At 19 weeks your baby develops a white substance on its skin called vernix. Vernix protects your baby's skin from its aquatic (water) environment. You may notice some skin changes yourself. Stretch marks, dryness and itchiness may all be present. Drink a lot of water to reduce the dryness and remember to eat healthily.
20 weeks marks the mid stage of pregnancy. If your baby is a girl, her womb (uterus) will be starting to develop. Your own womb would have reached your navel by now. There may be a dark line between your navel and your pubic hair. Don't worry this line will disappear after delivery.
In the 21st week, your baby's rapid growth will begin to slow down a bit. The heart beat is stronger and your midwife or doctor can listen to it through your tummy with a Pinard stethoscope.
Your ankles and feet may begin to swell especially in the evenings. Drink a lot of fluids, rest and elevate your feet on a foot stool while you're at it.
Husbands please this is the time to score points by massaging her feet. I can tell you from experience that this will almost always lead to a happy ending for both sides 😉😉😉
Your baby's testes (if he is a boy) will begin to descend from the pelvis into the scrotum by week 22. The brain will be developing rapidly too.
You may begin to develop low back pain because of the baby’s weight gain. Be sure to avoid sitting or standing for long periods. Always mix it up and lie on your side.

Week 5 - 8
This phase is very critical because it is the period where your baby (now called an embryo) starts to develop its organs. More than ever before you should totally avoid alcohol, cigarettes, colos, hard drugs and even medical drugs including agbo jedi.
At week 5, you should now be certain that you have missed your period. You may become more nauseated.
Your breasts will become slightly bigger because the milk glands will multiply. Your appetite will increase and other symptoms mentioned earlier will begin to intensify.
Your baby will develop 3 layers. The top layer (ectoderm) is where the brain, spinal cord, skin and hair will develop from.
The middle layer (mesoderm) develops into the heart and circulatory systems, bones, muscles, kidneys and reproductive organs.
The inner layer (endoderm) will develop into the intestines, liver, gall bladder, spleen, pancreas and bladder.
In the sixth week your baby is now fully an embryo. The heart at this stage will begin to function. But it is unlikely for you to see the heart beat in an early ultrasound scan at this stage.
The umbilical cord forms and growth is generally rapid. Buds that will form the arms and legs develop. The eyes, ears and mouth also begin to form. Morning sickness is fully established during this week for most women.
By week 7, your baby is the size of a grain of rice! The arms and legs continue to develop although no toes or fingers yet. The brain is growing as well as development of the eyes, nose, pancreas, lungs and intestines.
Week 8 ushers in the development of your baby's elbows and fingers. At this stage your baby is the size of an orange. The face and intestines will continue to develop.
If you do an ultrasound scan, your doctor or sonographer may be able to see the baby's heart beat at this level. You may begin to add weight. This is the time you should start changing your ward robe.
Week 9 - 12
Week 9 is the time where you realise that you are missing your second period in case you hadn't realised that you are pregnant. You will have added weight noticeably and may be experiencing a little heartburn/indigestion.
This week, your baby starts developing bones and cartilage. The eyes, tongues and intestines continue to develop clearly. Fingers and thumbs have appeared on both hands by now.
In the 10th week, most of the major joints are formed in your baby. There is also fluid by now in your womb where your baby perpetually swims.
The morning sickness will reduce at this stage. You may start noticing your veins more at this stage on your tummy, breasts and legs. The volume of your blood will also increase and can get as much as 50% more later in the pregnancy.
By the 11th week your baby will have attained the size of a grape fruit. Your baby is now medically called a foetus. The placenta will start to function and blood will begin to circulate between your baby and your womb. You may begin to become more sensitive to certain smells.
Week 12 is a period of rapid growth. The most critical part of your baby's development is over by this time. Nearly all the organs and structures of the foetus will be formed by now.
Hair and finger nails will begin to grow. The intestines will start working and the kidneys will begin to function too. By now you would have gotten used to most of the symptoms and your belly will start showing if it hasn't been obvious yet.

URGENT INFORMATION:
I have just read that the Oyo state government has advised everyone who lives around the explosion blast area to move away from there and check in to a hotel far from the area. This is due to concerns of a possible second explosion (if it were to happen). The government promises to pay the hotel bills.
Also anyone with family or friends affected by the blast should go straight to the hospital for emergency medical help. This will also be fully sorted by the government.
