I used to pay far more attention to university rankings than I do now. Like many people, I assumed a higher-ranked university automatically meant a better education. Then I studied in two different countries, and my perspective changed.
Rankings tell us many useful things. They can show research output, faculty reputation, citations, funding, international collaborations, and academic resources. Those metrics matter, especially for research but after experiencing two very different educational systems, I realized they don't tell the whole story.
They don't measure the resilience developed by students who succeed despite unstable academic calendars, limited resources, or administrative hurdles. They don't capture the ingenuity of students who learn to solve problems with whatever is available. They don't rank the friendships that become lifelong support systems or the mentors who completely alter the course of a student's life with one conversation. Nor do they measure personal growth.
Some of the most brilliant people I have met studied at universities that rarely appear on global rankings. Their confidence, work ethic, leadership, and ability to thrive under pressure were not products of rankings. They were shaped by their experiences.
Likewise, studying in a highly ranked institution exposed me to incredible opportunities, world-class facilities, structured academic systems, accessible professors, extensive research support, and an environment intentionally designed to help students succeed. Those experiences also transformed me in ways that no ranking could adequately describe.
I have come to believe that a university's value is only partly found in what it provides. The other part lies in what it helps you become.
The best university for one person may not be the best for another. Sometimes the institution that changes your life isn't the one with the highest global ranking, but the one that gives you the environment, people, opportunities, and challenges you need at that particular season.
Rankings matter. They provide valuable information but they are only one measure of a university's quality, not a measure of a student's potential or of the life-changing impact an institution can have.
We may have spent too much time asking, "How highly is this university ranked?" and not enough time asking, "What kind of person does this university help people become?"
@NigeriaStories This is not the right way to report news. Unless you can provide detailed information on what happened, how it happened and those affected, you shouldn't drop vague headlines. This can cause social panic and unrest.
Bandits kidnapped a medical doctor. They tied him up, set up fire, grabbed his hand and put it inside the burning fire. Everyday, they burn a portion of his hand while he watched & screamed of severe pain. They kept burning the hand daily until they reached his shoulder. They then collected 15 million naira ransom and still killed him. These are the animals government wants to forgive & reward with free houses.
VIDEO: Police Bust Igbo Child Trafficking Syndicate Hiding Behind Hospital in Ibeju-Lekki
Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad have uncovered an alleged child trafficking syndicate operating under the guise of a hospital in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
A nurse and the matron of the private hospital, Mrs. Ifeoma Ekwem and Mrs. Ngozi Ozoemena, were arrested with three stolen babies aged between one and two years. The suspects confessed to receiving payments ranging from N350,000 to N400,000 for each child.
The Lagos State Police Command has vowed to dismantle the syndicate and ensure all trafficked children are recovered and reunited with their families.
Today marks exactly 42 days since the tragic k!dnapp!ng of those children and teachers in Oyo State, and sadly they are still yet to return home. π
I am typing this with tears in my eyes π because some people may never truly understand the pain, fear, and trauma that come with spending even a single day in the hands of tΒ£rror!sts, let alone 42 days.
First, I want to thank God Almighty and my mother for making my escape possible. If I hadn't escaped, I genuinely believe I might not be alive today. The 42 days I spent in captivity were the most horrific days of my life. The hunger, fear, uncertainty, sleepless nights, and constant thoughts of death are experiences I will carry with me forever.
That is why my heart breaks whenever I think about those innocent children and their teachers. If, as an adult, I went through so much physical and emotional damage in 42 days, I cannot begin to imagine what those young children are enduring right now in the den of those hΒ£artlΒ£ss tΒ£rror!sts. ππ°
Every passing day feels like a lifetime for the victims and their families. Parents are waking up each morning not knowing whether their children are safe, hungry, sick, or even alive. No family deserves this kind of pain. ππ
It is heartbreaking that after 42 days, there is still little hope and no clear end in sight. We have a government, yet these innocent lives seem forgotten. Human lives should matter. These children deserve to come home. Their teachers deserve to come home.
Today, I pray for their safety, strength, and freedom. May God bring them back alive to their families. ππ½π
42 days. Forty-two painful days too many. I went from this to this in 42 days. πππ
As a woman, I sometimes think about the freedoms I move through without noticing, the freedom to learn, work, speak, dream, and choose. Then I think about women in Afghanistan who have been forced to carry burdens no woman should have to bear.
Their stories remind me that feminism isn't just about our individual experiences. It's about recognizing that the rights of women anywhere matter to women everywhere.
May we continue to speak up, pay attention, and show solidarity with Afghan women whose courage deserves more than silence.

@Tee_noh15 You go born and them go ski.n them al.ive for your presence. You cr.azy dullard. What's the essence of being able to read but lacking the sense to comprehend. O go gidi
@sixvice@NigeriaStories Does hear her out mean letting her go unpunished? Why do you people like to push your agenda blindly? What I mean is that her situation can b used as a case study for other people with such temper. This doesn't mean letting her live. Shey na like this Nigeria wan better? SMH π€¦
@Brheight_onu@NigeriaStories True. This is Nigeria. But I, at least, expect some reasonable and mature opinions from people instead of "kill, kill, kill". We already know that is the end for her so instead of being dummies, we should be diverse in perspectives. But we're lazy so....
@Brheight_onu@NigeriaStories Situation, they are not aware of how crazy things can get. That is the concept behind case studies. Even if she will be killed, the incidence should not just go like that. To me, it's abnormal for a woman to overpower 3 adults all alone. So there must be something else to know.
@Brheight_onu@NigeriaStories Everyone wants her to be punished. That is normal. She should be. But instead of putting so much energy on ending her life, how about critically analysing her while she is being punished? A lot of other people might have even worst temper but because they've not been in such
