Assessment is a contentious topic in PE that many want more clarity and direction on.
Read my latest blog on what I believe to be the true purpose of Assessment in PE.
I would love to hear your thoughts…

I taught a lecture last week with a focus on using rubrics for formative assessment. We explored @drstephenharvey & van der Mars’ (2010) Rubric for Racket Game Performance. I introduced a radar for peer/self-assessment and role modelled its potential use in Badminton. #EduPE
@jodymatey There's so many ways you could go with this as a template for students to explore. Could happen 'live' in lesson or at the end of an activity or lesson. Love it!
@jodymatey Awesome stuff, great prep and organisation!
This is embedded into their routine, making it efficient and enabling them to take ownership of their learning! 👏👍
What are the student conversations like when doing this?
I finished my practical netball lesson by getting the students to write down ‘what they think makes a successful team.’ They sometimes struggle to work together, but it’s VERY clear to me that they do in fact… understand 🥰✨🫶🏼
Next lesson we will put our own advice to work…
@MissTealePE I will do model answers as examples which class contribute to - can use projector or visualiser. Also sentence starters/questions for classwork. Can produce key Q's in a list for s to consider when building their responses 👍
@jodymatey @FAinPhysEd Love it! I'd like to try this. I often do the "clap" response for each station. Louder the clap, the more fun they had at that station.
'Formative assessment is responsive teaching, and refers to a wide variety of methods that teachers use to conduct on-going evaluations of pupil understanding, their ability to engage and self-regulate, their learning needs and academic progress'

@MrAustinPE @WannaTeachPE Here's a Y9 fitness lesson. Playing cards in middle face down. Groups on outside. Each group get 1 card at a time then do ex as a group. E.g 6 of hearts = 6 squats. S's pick exercises. Rounds to music til cards all gone. Count cards per group. Reward good technique with xtra pts!
