Wow. This post and these comments are from members I likely see every Sunday proclaiming to follow Christ, love their neighbor, and finding the one.
To you he’s complete trash. To others he’s been the balm of Gilead in an intense, unknown crisis you’ll not wish on anyone.
I’ll say what a Mormon can’t. John Dehlin is complete trash. There is something obscene about making a career out of people at the exact moment their faith is breaking. Dehlin didn’t stumble onto the spiritual crises of mormons. He built a machine on top of them, turned the worst night of someone’s interior life into an episode, a download, a recurring donation. And a man whose audience grows every time someone walks away is not a neutral physician at the bedside. He has a stake in the disease. Follow the money, a steady harvest of the wounded, dressed up as liberation.
I think about a loving father implementing a ridiculous rule so he can see if his children will do what he says…and then if they don’t follow said rule, he won’t give them good things that others already get or deserve… 🤔
Joe Rogan gets so excited when sunlight expert Rowan Jacobsen tells him coffee is the best supplement that exists today:
ROGAN: “Is coffee actually good for you?”
JACOBSEN: “Coffee is SHOCKINGLY good for you. It’s crazy how powerful the evidence is.”
ROGAN: “I’ve read that it’s bad for you, but I dismissed it because I’m biased. I love coffee. It tastes too good and feels too good.”
JACOBSEN: “It’s the best supplement in the world.”
ROGAN: “Really? What makes it so good?”
JACOBSEN: “It improves mitochondrial function. I think caffeine is a major part of it, but coffee contains other compounds too. Tea doesn’t seem to deliver the same benefits.”
ROGAN: “That’s interesting.”
JACOBSEN: “Plants actually produce caffeine to kill insects. It makes their mitochondria run completely out of control until they basically blow up.
Humans have systems that slow down that reaction, so we get the energy boost without the explosion. It helps us produce energy more efficiently with less wear and tear.”
ROGAN: “That’s all I needed to hear. I’m in. I love coffee and I’m never giving it up.”
@Bar_tolmi Will buy. Would love to learn more about your experience here. Stepping back from LDS orthodoxy means most also step back from Jesus. I can see why, and yet I’m also compelled to draw closer.
@jesse_k_fox My anecdotal experience is not many ask why you stepped back, changed thinking, or what you believe now. Assumption in silence, is a self preserving guise at being “accepting.
There is an odd movement trying to discredit the work from Jeff Strong, and the 15,000+ responses that fed the data in it.
People fear data they aren’t comfortable with. Maybe a better approach is to listen and consider it.
I want to buy this for every one of my friends and family members to understand why people leave the church.
@jesse_k_fox Just listen to them. Hear their story. It’s not ours to decide which path is best for them. Anyone certain of theirs as the only way has already lost me. This goes for those In & Out of the church. Atheist or Believer.
@jesse_k_fox@BardofLagrandil I’m here for this line of thinking. I think critics lose credibility by claiming it’s all bad. I think humankind natively desires good & we sometimes fall to shadow side. Selfish, greedy, angry, vindictive etc.
I can admire the good of the BoM w/o accepting its literalism.
@stackerco It’s become a thing to control thought and action. Do your thing members. Live authentically relying on your own wisdom after studying it out in your mind. The more this comes up the more asinine it seems to me.
The church will change “policy” & Members will be at SB with me.
@jesse_k_fox I feel each of these were influenced by their own desires/feelings. They felt inspired. Lots of people & leaders do. But I also don’t belive these things were directly commanded by God.
@jesse_k_fox I have issues with most of the truth claims. Evolution of personal story, thought , and shadow to now what we repeat as literal direction from God. (Polygamy, Priesthood, Prophets, WoW)
