So it's starting to look like there's a concerted effort by tech companies to deliberately undermine copyright in favour of AI and they are definitely meddling with democracy.
Yesterday, the @UKHouseofLords' Communications Committee was supposed to meet at 2.30pm to grill UK ministers @leicesterliz Liz Kendall and @lisanandy live about what progress the govt has made on AI and copyright since March, particularly relating to transparency about the datasets used to train AI models, and what statutory requirements commercial AI developers will need to adhere to.
Instead, the session was cancelled without warning, and the House of Lords press office tells me that there is no date in the diary currently to reschedule the session.
This is very, very bad news.
By the end of this month, I will upload my English translation of "Megami Tensei." However, this was done just to help the translator understand my Japanese before the official translation began. Therefore, I don’t plan to keep it up for long. I’ll upload and delete it all within this month. Please wait for the officially translated book to come out!
🦔Ford CEO Jim Farley told reporters he wouldn't want anyone working on a new Bronco because modern cars are too complex and it's a safety issue. The Bronco has removable doors and a detachable roof. Ford led every US automaker in recalls this year. The REPAIR Act, which would protect independent mechanics' access to vehicle diagnostic data, is being debated in Congress right now, and language about data access was recently stripped from the bill.
My Take
Ford picked the Bronco as the example of a car too complex to repair. A vehicle you can unbolt the doors from. The same week Ford led every other automaker in recalls. The CEO who just rehired 350 engineers because AI couldn't do their jobs now says independent mechanics can't be trusted to do theirs.
This has nothing to do with safety. Ford can't keep its own cars from needing recalls more than anyone else, so the company lecturing consumers about safe repairs doesn't hold up. The fight is over diagnostic data. Modern cars collect enormous amounts of it, and whoever controls that data controls who can fix the car. If independent mechanics lose access, every repair goes through the dealership at dealership prices. Farley said AI will replace half of white-collar workers, and now he wants to make sure the other half can't fix a Bronco without Ford's permission. Congress is deciding this right now and most people have no idea the bill exists.

Let’s discuss the business of games.
I’m always advocating for more creative control to devs. And I put a lot of blame for how things are in the executive sphere.
So I’m going to go into depth about why.
Some of you may or may not know I own a studio. I stepped down as CEO in January. I have a few ventures, so I try to focus more on being a creative these days.
I am constantly bombarded with emails and letters about selling my company. Since the three year mark. Legal firms scour HMRC for profitable studios and then contact the owners about their “exit strategy.”
This always confused me as.. I never had an exit strategy. As a creative I built my studio for one purpose: build a great team that’s run the way I think studios should be.
If I sold, some of the team would leave. I would be completely gone. The culture would immediately change.
What is left? The brand? The IP? Yeah how many great IPs have been run into the ground by someone who acquired them.
Here’s the thing. Great games are made by great teams. People who have a working cadence and habits. Not just a collection of great individuals. Anyone can throw that together with money. But it takes more than that, it’s culture, a shared vision, and that takes time to build.
Big companies like Embracer and Microsoft acquire studios for their IP. They see the value in the IP alone. Then they close studios and give the IP to someone else.
But a great IP in the hands of a bad team will just be a bad game.
A great team with no IP can create one.
You can’t transplant DNA.
I always say the biggest problem with companies is they treat devs as disposable. They treat them as their role. They fire people when they don’t need them then hire someone else later.
But this is like taking a brick out of the middle of a wall and then later placing a new one on top. Eventually you have a big hole and it will collapse. I’ve been that brick and I refuse to run a studio that way.
The games industry is exhausting. I love making games, I love working with creatives, I just love games.
What I don’t love is devs being blamed for everything wrong in gaming when the reality is that poor decisions happen 3 layers above the average dev by people who don’t even play games.
I’m not saying devs know everything, but management in the industry is clearly failing everyone.
@ShankMods Well we gonna cry 1000× more about it when Gaben dies and some suit will maximise profits from steam. But it is a disadvantage of pc gaming especially once national id gets tied to your Microsoft account and pc emulation will become easily tracked.

@HoegLaw Which is obviously true but question like this make me think are there any moral values protected by the law? Like obviously don't kill steal etc but even those become question of scale, justification power etc. War is not illegal, assets can be taken from you legally. Law≠Moral
When was the last time you made a game?
You’ve come after me before and it’s pathetic. We all know the problems in gamedev are executives who don’t know how to manage or fund projects. Just like you couldn’t manage or fund your own projects.
Yet developers are constantly harassed by people who know nothing about what we do out of complete ignorance. Then get angry because we don’t want to hear their opinion on why unreal engine sucks? Like they even know what it is beyond a YouTube video.
People want to know why their games suck? Not because the chefs can’t cook, but because the restaurant owner keeps cutting costs, firing the chefs and telling them to make meals they know people don’t want.
I don’t mind if people tell me games I work on sucked. I learned early in my career I’d be working on some bad games. APB taught me that. But like many devs I just work hard at my own little corner. I don’t take it personally even if someone says my art is bad. But I don’t have to listen to someone tell me how to do my job better when they don’t know what my job even is.
Or tell me how it is to work in games when they don’t know.
Nobody ever starts these conversations in good faith and escalates them to “oh she doesn’t want to hear what I think about game design even though she isn’t a designer? Wow she’s everything wrong with games… concord or something. Wah.”
@GenePark I mean if money was not a factor I would be omega down for steam machine but at 1000 with good pc at home I can't justify it, but if I get a chance to grab one for up to $700 in next 2 years I will.
