Breaking: Appeal Court upholds order stopping INEC from recognising ADC congresses conducted by David Mark-led faction.
The Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal filed by the David Mark-led caretaker leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), affirming a Federal High Court order restricting INEC from recognising state congresses conducted by the faction.
In a 2–1 split judgment delivered by Justice Okon Abang, the appellate court upheld the April 29 ruling of Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, which barred the caretaker executives from interfering with the tenure and functions of the party’s elected state executives.
The court held that the responsibility to conduct state congresses of political parties lies with elected state executive committees, rather than national leadership.
Justices Abang and Donatus Okorowo formed the majority decision, while Justice Abba Mohammed, who headed the panel, gave a dissenting judgment, arguing that the matter was an internal party affair and should not have been entertained by the lower court.
PHOTOS: ISWAP attack foiled in Borno as troops kill terrorists, recover camcorder linking commanders and foreign facilitators.
Troops of the 19 Brigade, Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have foiled an attempted infiltration by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists into Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers.
The failed assault occurred at about 10:20 p.m. on 11 July, 2026, when the terrorists attempted to breach the military location under the cover of darkness. However, troops detected the hostile movement and swiftly responded with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon their mission and retreat in disarray.
The terrorists were reportedly attempting to loot cholera medical supplies during the operation, a development which aligns with recent intelligence reports of a cholera outbreak within terrorist enclaves and alleged internal actions taken by the group against some affected members.
During the engagement, troops neutralised a terrorist cameraman and recovered a Sony camcorder containing sensitive recordings of ISWAP activities, including operational footage and propaganda materials.
Preliminary forensic analysis of the recovered device reportedly revealed that the failed attack was coordinated by four senior ISWAP commanders (Qai’ids), alongside three foreign terrorist facilitators. The identified foreign operatives include a Palestinian Arab identified as Abu Ishaq, reportedly assessed as ISWAP’s overall trainer; a Moroccan Arab identified as Abu Thaiba, a medical doctor within the terrorist network; and another Arab operative whose identity remains unknown.
The findings further suggest continued external support and transnational links involving ISWAP, with foreign operatives allegedly providing specialised expertise and support to the terrorist group.
Following the successful engagement, troops conducted exploitation operations in the area and recovered the Sony camcorder, several rounds of PKT and 7.62mm Special ammunition, terrorist uniforms, and other combat equipment.
The military stated that initial analysis of satellite imagery, supported by human intelligence sources, showed that the terrorists evacuated the bodies of some of their fighters during their withdrawal. The sources also confirmed that the group suffered heavy casualties, with several others sustaining gunshot wounds.
Two soldiers sustained gunshot injuries during the firefight and were promptly evacuated for medical attention. Both personnel are reported to be in stable condition.
The failed infiltration attempt represents another operational setback for ISWAP amid sustained military pressure across the North East Theatre. The military noted that ongoing operations continue to degrade the group’s fighting capability, morale, and freedom of movement.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist networks, protecting vulnerable communities, and restoring lasting peace and security across the North East region.

Further intelligence revealed that the group is mobilising reinforcements from Kaduna and Zamfara States to establish a new operational base in Kamuku Forest Reserve.
