@tomfgoodwin What you are noticing is that Europe is much, much poorer than America. That’s why anything that costs money is used more sparingly. You didn’t notice it before because we weren’t as relatively poor back then. It’s got worse.

@psychgeist52 You’ll know this is true if you work with kids. Any form of behavioural difficulty is either ADHD or autism. It sort of makes sense because there are no resources to help with other problems. At least these 2 can be diagnosed, a report written and the kid given a fidget toy.

@SocialistHB The lessons take up all the pool making it very hard to go for a casual swim and learn from parents or peers. Impossible to swim after school and weekend slots need online booking, ie an involved parent. In the past children took themselves to the pool and learnt.

@hatpinwoman I think it’s absolutely ok to use human intuition when considering issues like this. By looking at the young women who are using sticks it’s quite obvious it’s a fashion or contagion issue. They have the same dress sense. Genuine disability doesn’t influence personal style.

@sbaroncohen The safeguarding fail happened long ago. You can’t control public reaction. You can put safeguards in place to prevent vulnerable people ending up in this position in the first place
