UK immigration policy is scary🎃
People seeking sanctuary deserve protection not punishment. We say it’s high time for a kinder, fairer & more sensible approach to supporting refugees in the UK.
This #halloween, and every other day, let's make refugees welcome.
UK Illegal Migration Bill, which just passed, is at variance with the UK's obligations under intl human rights & refugee law and will have profound consequences for people in need of intl protection, @volker_turk & @FilippoGrandi warn.

#WorldRefugeeDay was marked in Falmouth yesterday with a day of Cultural Celebration at Princess Pavilion, including, amongst other things, an Arabic dance workshop from Hawiyya Dance Company and a performance from all-female morris dancing side The Wad. @CornwallLive@WMNNews

My father's struggles for more than 4 decades to keep running from bombs, saving, and providing for his children in war-torn Afghanistan resemble the struggles of millions of other war-torn people.
But my parents still kept their belief that humanity and compassion will always prevail over evil. Even now, I'm amazed how much he thinks about millions of Afghans who are suffering rather than himself even though he is very frail and grieving for my late mother.
They also continuously encouraged me to have a bigger dream than they could have and keep chasing it. That's one of the main lessons they could teach me despite not having any formal education or means to educate me while constantly on the move to protect us. But that was enough to inspire me. I modelled their resilience to learn #NeverGiveup
My heart goes out to all those who don't have their father's around anymore.
On World Refugee Day, I'm sharing my humble journey from seeking safety to becoming a doctor:
. 1999 - forced to leave family in Afghanistan to seek safety in UK aged 15 having lived childhood in war and camps
. 2001 - started college (A-levels) with not much formal education or command of English
. 2003 - got admitted to study medicine at @Cambridge_Uni despite many discouraging, saying I wasn't white and not educated enough
. 2006 - graduated from Cambridge and finished studies at Harvard and Imperial despite battling PTSD and loneliness
. 2010 - qualified as a doctor, and have since been proudly serving people in the NHS and 🌎 as a doctor.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt on this journey, it’s this - refugees are not victims. We are survivors, dreamers, contributors. The bravery of all those who seek safety should be celebrated.
Just an incredible atmosphere here today!

#RefugeeWeek
The Illegal Migration Bill will ban people from getting protection, punish them for seeking sanctuary, and separate families.
It treats people with hostility, discrimination and distrust.
Today individuals and communities of faith join us to say, this is not #WhoWeAre
It’s #WorldRefugeeDay!
Today and every day, we recognize the contributions refugees make and the benefits they bring to their host communities.
Join us in celebrating the refugees who have shaped our lives through their inspiring stories, their strength and their talents.

We are heartbroken by the news that Barbara Winton, fearless campaigner for refugees and daughter of Nicholas Winton, passed away on Tuesday morning.
@barbara_winton was one of our most brilliant campaigners - working tirelessly in support of Safe Passage.
🇺🇦 Thank you to the Millpool Centre in Looe for hosting the Ukrainian Information Event on Saturday. It was good to meet everyone and discuss the challenges of living in a rural area with @weareCN4C @PenrynRefugee and @Sunfl0werSister
