Hmm, this user blocked me before I could apologize for how I expressed myself (that’s why I deleted the original post).
Honestly, I didn’t use the best words and I was thinking more about promoting my research, but it came out badly. After reading some comments on that post and on the original one, I want to explain things a bit, especially why there aren’t many DEEP dive videos about lesser-known AUs.
There are two problems with this topic:
1. “There are no videos about obscure or lesser-known AUs.”
I honestly don’t know how things are in the English-speaking community. The most popular YouTubers on that side of the community are mostly known for their UT/DR content, and I mainly know them for that. I don’t really know many who focus on AUs specifically. The only example I can think of might be TeachTale, maybe…
Anyway, in the Spanish-speaking community there are people who explain AUs, and not just the well-known ones, but all kinds of AUs, or at least there were. However, those videos are usually short, more like a small summary rather than a proper investigation.
And that leads to the next point.
2. “A lot of deep dive videos are not that DEEP”
I honestly don’t know if anyone makes AU investigations the way I do, but if someone does, they’ll know it’s HARD…
Each one of my investigations and video productions has taken at least a year, and believe me, the size or popularity of the AU doesn’t change how long it takes to research. It’s not just about reading the FAQ and that’s it, you have to go through all the creator’s posts across every social media platform to see if they ever mentioned something about their work. It’s not something quick.
And if it were that simple, there would be more researchs like the ones by xXtha with Dreamtale or the person who made the Underswap document. But those are documents, not videos. Turning research that long into a video is difficult, it costs time and MONEY.
And here’s the last point I want to talk about.
I’ve made 5 videos, and 2 of them are research, while the others are trailers and similar content. My first video was a 3-hour investigation, and I earned nothing from it. Just a few weeks ago I received my first YouTube payment of €70 after 3 years of researching AUs, while having spent over €800 commissioning artists for the videos, just to illustrate all the information that creators mention but never visually show.
I don’t make videos for the ads revenue. I make videos so people can watch them.
And if I spend a year making a video about a lesser-known AU, and in the end only 2k people watch it… it would honestly make me depressed.
So yes, making truly DEEP dive projects about lesser-known AUs just ISN'T WORTH IT.
At most, I can imagine people doing things like I do for AUs they’re personally passionate about, like the examples mentioned before, such as xXtha or me with Aftertale. But in general, it’s very difficult.
Anyways, researching AUs at a more superficial level usually isn’t that complicated. So I encourage you, and anyone else, to do the same as me and make something like a 4-hour video about Swapfell or whatever AU you like.
